Patriots vs. Texans SNF Pick – NFL Week 14

This time the New England Patriots biggest issues aren’t off the field. Here for the Patriots, they are dealing with a slew of injuries that have slowed them down. I know the nasty divorce between the Patriots and Wes Welker two seasons ago, but given the injuries they may have liked to have signed up before going to the Rams. Rob Gronkowski was on the practice field this week, getting a feel for things back again. It could have been much worse for Gronkowski, who took a helmet to the knee a couple weeks ago late against the Broncos. That was some kind of win for the Broncos, who have always been on the opposite end of the stick against the Patriots. Any Peyton Manning team seems to find a way to lose against the Pats. Not then, as Osweiler picked up the biggest win of his young career. Julian Edelman was practice as well, but a more realistic time table for him for a return would be during the playoffs.

Edelman is one of the most underrated players in the NFL. He can do it all at the wide receiver position, so when he went down Tom Brady had to feeling pretty miserable. He is one of his favorite targets and also acts as a nice safety valve for the Patriots. They have been bumped out as favorites to win the Super Bowl due to the injuries. The Patriots were defeated by the Eagles last week for one of their biggest losses in awhile. New England losing made it two in a row, they look to avoid a third loss in a row against the Houston Texans tonight on SNF. Note that the Patriots haven’t lost three games in a row since thirteen years ago. Losing two in a row for the Pats is unheard of, three in a row is something we haven’t seen since over a decade ago. We will see if Bill Belichick is able to keep the team together moving forward despite a couple of dry patches.

Patriots vs. Texans Pick:

There will of course be strong ratings on television for this one tonight. You have the state of Texas up against the Patriots. It is hard to say whether Gronkowski will be absent this tonight. I wouldn’t bet on him coming out and playing in this one. It is just my hunch, though. They are merely keeping his legs staying active and keeping the usual routine. The defense is actually he strong unit here, as they are allowing teams to score only 20 points per game. Brian Hoyer will face his former team today. Belichick knows Hoyer inside and out, that plays into the hand of the Patriots. The Patriots’ defense should force Hoyer into some problems tonight.

If Belichick has a good read on a quarterback, I’m afraid it might be a long day for them. He is the best at making adjustments on the fly and taking away the strong suit of the Texans. The Pats are still 3rd in the NFL in offense, averaging 28 points per game. The Texans are scoring 21 points per game. I see the Patriots coming in on primetime and showing the world that they aren’t going to go away. Look for Tom Brady to have a big game. I could definitely see it in this spot against the Texans. He has heard it in the media, the Patriots need more weapons. Well, watch Brady do it all today without a full healthy roster at his disposal.

PICK: PATRIOTS -3.5 (-110)
