Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Giants MNF Pick – NFL Week 1 September 14

A double-header of Monday Night Football comes your way to end off Week 1, and we’ll look to finish the week strong with a big Steelers vs. Giants showdown.

The Giants enter this season trying to recover from last year’s disastrous campaign. Daniel Jones is already under pressure at the quarterback position, and though New York went out and did a lot to bolster their skill positions – you have to wonder if it’s enough to make headway in the NFC East.

For the Steelers, this is supposed to be a much better season for them and the hopes are high in Steeltown. They’re healthy once again, and Big Ben Roethlisberger says he’s feeling great and eager to get back at it. We haven’t seen him fully healthy in what seems like years now, so him being at full-strength has to be a real shot in the arm for this franchise.

One player that isn’t healthy for the Steelers will be their key Pro-Bowl center in David DeCastro. That’s a major loss for Pittsburgh along their O-Line, and they’ll surely miss his blocking and leadership abilities pre-snap.

Despite this, optimism is high in both camps entering an uncertain 2020 campaign. It’s always nice to start the season with a big victory, and both the G-Men and Steelers feel that’s a realistic goal for them on Monday evening. Steelers vs. Giants Pick:

While it seems like all the other teams in the NFC East were getting hyped up in the off-season, from this perspective – it seemed as if Daniel Jones and the Giants were always getting left out of the discussion. This is an improved team, especially offensively. The G-Men boast some excellent offensive personnel, and despite youth – many of these players are ready to take that next step.

Daniel Jones is better than most think, after finishing the 2019 campaign on a tear. Darius Slayton at the wideout position remains an emerging talent, and one that could trouble the Steelers on Monday evening. And let’s not forget about Saquon Barkley who can do a lot, with very little.

The G-Men will get a stern test in Week 1 though as Pittsburgh does boast a talented defense. They come after opposing QB’s with a vicious pass rush, and good cornerback play makes it tough to consistently beat them downfield. That said, a nice balance between throwing and running plays could keep the Steelers’ defense off-balance, and eventually Saquon Barkley should be able to exploit some of their linebackers and reel off big plays.

For Pittsburgh, it is going to be interesting to see the quality of their offense, and specifically the health of Ben Roethlisberger. As of now, we just don’t know truly what to expect after not having a pre-season. While it might seem like this is an easy matchup to ease Big Ben back into game action, New York actually has done well lately to enhance their defense.

They’ve gone out and brought in James Bradberry to bolster their secondary, and obtained Leonard Williams to help with a flailing pass rush. That duo adds legitimate depth to the Giants’ stop unit, and should pay immediate dividends against a talented Pittsburgh attack.

With DeCastro out for the Steelers, that’s a huge loss that many aren’t seeming to properly factor into the betting line here. The Giants’ new pieces on defense can do enough to limit Pittsburgh on key drives, while Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley can make enough skill plays to keep the G-Men in this game late. At a big spread price, roll with the underdog to keep it close on Monday evening.
