Raiders vs. Broncos Pick – NFL Week 14

Don’t look now but Brock Osweiler is 3-0 as the starter of the Denver Broncos. The Broncos might have a situation on their hands when the playoffs draw nearer. Go with Peyton Manning in the playoffs or stick with Osweiler? Osweiler has the hot hand and has looked comfortable in the offense. It is also nice to see him get some zip on his balls, unlike Peyton who was throwing butterflys out there. The popular opinion is that Manning will come back for the playoffs if he is healthy enough to go. There has been speculation that Manning will be back for another season next year, with what team, who knows. I’m not too fond of that decision at all. You’ve don’t all you wanted to do in your career, don’t go out there and cause greater injury to yourself, and or look like a quarterback who can’t throw the ball more than 20 yards. Today Osweiler is at the controls again, who has looked cool and collected for the Broncos as the starter.

I am sure receivers would tell you that they prefer Osweiler starting over Manning. They wouldn’t actually say it out loud, but at this point in their careers Osweiler delivers a nicer ball than Manning can. At no fault of his own, physically bodies breakdown and they don’t perform at quite the same level. Time has caught up to Manning and he definitely isn’t in the highlight of his career anymore. Although, it wasn’t all that long ago he was breaking records as a member of the Broncos. That loss to Seattle in the Super Bowl sort of marked the end of an era for Manning.

The Broncos welcome division foe the Oakland Raiders to Denver today. The Raiders look like they have their guy in Derek Carr. I am really interested in seeing how he plays out next season. Another year with similar results to this season, yeah I will give him the benefit of the doubt and say he is a really good quarterback. And more importantly, one who can be the future of the Oakland Raiders. A lot of people will say that he is already the future, but I am going to hold up just a bit. Sometimes when there is an abundance of film on a quarterback, he regresses. The Raiders don’t have any time for regressing, as they look to turn a big page.

Raiders vs. Broncos Pick:

You can talk about how good Osweiler has been playing all day long. After all he has looked like a pretty quarterback, posting 5 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. That doesn’t look much but he is making big plays when needed, and most importantly, I continue to see improvements made from Osweiler from the time he took over as the starter. However, the beauty in the Broncos is their defense. Osweiler can do great things, but he isn’t going to put a team on his back and go the distance. No he needs something else, and the Broncos have that something else with their stifling defense. Note that Denver is 1st in overall defense and against the pass. The Raiders like to give the ball to Derek Carr and make things happen.

I feel like this is going to be a rough game for the young Carr. On the road at the Mile High in Denver, Carr is going to struggle mightily against the Broncos defensive unit. It isn’t going to make him a bad player, but this Denver defense can get after you. The defense on the Raiders has kept them back, as they are 26th defending the pass and 25th best defense in the NFL. I see this game being won though with the Broncos’ defense. They should be able to make life tough on Derek Carr today with Osweiler doing enough to cover the spread.

PICK: BRONCOS -6.5 (-110)
