The Raiders and Broncos were both crushed by late game surges by the 49ers and Jets, respectively, and will be looking to bounce back Sunday in this classic AFC West clash. If either team is going to become a factor in the AFC West, now is the time to stand up. The Raiders are looking for a QB, again, while the Broncos are looking for a running game. The (2-4) Oakland Raiders will hobble into Invesco Field for an afternoon tilt with the (2-4) Denver Broncos, kickoff slated for 4:15 PM EST. The Raiders have won their last two games in Denver, where the Broncos are just 14-13 in the regular season since ’07.

The Oakland Raiders will try to get back on track in Week 7, after allowing Bay Area rival San Francisco to record its first win of the season last week. Getting back in the win column figures to be a difficult task, considering the Raiders have lost four in a row and 13 of their last 18 on the road. However, two wins during this stretch have come at Denver, where the Raiders will do battle Sunday. The Oakland Raiders are in need of a viable solution under centre, whether it be from injury or inconsistent play, the Raiders have not gotten any solid production from their quarterbacks. QB Jason Campbell’s injured left knee is improving and he is expected to be able to start this weekend against Denver if he has no setbacks. Coach Tom Cable said the final decision on whether Campbell can start against the Broncos on Sunday will likely be made just before game time. QB Kyle Boller will probably start if Campbell can’t go. In other injury news, Cable says running backs Darren McFadden and Michael Bennett are likely to play after missing last week’s game with hamstring injuries. The Raiders lead the series 55-41-2 over the Broncos in regular season play since the teams first met in 1960.
The Broncos did everything but win last Sunday. They played a very solid game on both sides of the ball but could not keep Jets quarterback Marc Sanchez from sealing the comeback bid late in the fourth quarter. This could be a big game for WR Brandon Lloyd, and if he can get it done against the Raiders secondary, he’ll really make a case for getting paid. Due to the ineptness of the running game Denver has no choice but to put the ball up in the air a ton. Led by quarterback Kyle Orton, who is second in the NFL with 1,942 passing yards, the Broncos rank third in the league in passing offense (311.0 yards per game). However, Denver may want to consider hammering the football on the ground again this week. After all, it will be going up against a defense that is giving up 149.5 rushing yards per game (30th in the NFL). The running game saw a bit of light at the end of the tunnel last Sunday, they put up strong numbers against a solid Jets run defense. RB Knowshon Moreno returned to Denver’s lineup for the first time in three weeks in the loss to the Jets, and while he looked tentative coming off a hamstring, he should only feel more comfortable moving forward. Denver ran for a season-best 145 yards last week and wants to continue taking pressure off QB Kyle Orton. The Broncos are now finished with their NFL worst starting schedule and will not enjoy the fruits of playing some much less fearsome teams.

Raiders vs Broncos Prediction for Week 7:
Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – For a number of reasons I believe the smart money is on the home side this weekend. Both squads are coming off of crushing defeats last Sunday, they were both in line to win but had late rallies turn against them in the final minutes of their games. The Raiders come into this game with a contingent of injuries and they are still unsure who will line up under centre on Sunday. The Broncos, after coming off of a home loss to a out of division opponent, are 6-2 ATS in the last two seasons. The Raiders, meanwhile, are 2-8 ATS after coming off a loss to an out of conference game in the last three seasons. The Broncos have not really had a coming out party yet, but I see it happening this Sunday against a banged up Raiders bunch. We will consider laying the wood with the Mile high bunch on Sunday.
Game Total Prediction – The Broncos will have every opportunity to exert some frustration from their tough loss to the New York Jets this Sunday against an injury plagued Raiders team. Denver, offensively, has been extremely capable for quite some time now and are no longer considered an average offensive team. The total has gone OVER in 9 of Denver’s last 11 games and the total has gone OVER in 4 of Denver’s last 5 games at home. These two teams have a history of hooking up for high scoring affairs and I see much the same this Sunday. The total has gone OVER in 4 of Denver’s last 6 games when playing Oakland. The Raiders are no slouch anymore in the AFC West and are no longer overlooked as they are returning to their once fearsome form. The news is out, the Raiders know how to travel, in fact the total has gone OVER in 4 of Oakland’s last 6 games on the road. We will consider the OVER in this classic rivalry game between these two storied teams. Cheers!
