Las Vegas Raiders vs Denver Broncos Week 17 Pick – NFL January 3

The NFL season is coming to a close as we enter Week 17. Sixteen games will be up on the board throughout January 3. One of these games will be between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos. These two teams are sitting outside of the playoff picture, but are still trying to end the season strong. This game will kick off at around 4:25 PM Eastern time.

Las Vegas has put up a record of 7-8 throughout this season, which has them sitting in second place of the AFC West. The Raiders have lost three games in a row and five of their last six games. Las Vegas started out the season with a record of 6-3, but choked away their playoff chances. Now the Raiders will look to finish the season with a win on Sunday.

The Broncos have earned a record of 5-10 so far this season, which has them in last place of the AFC West. Denver has struggled once again this season and have not had great luck with injuries. The Broncos have lost back to back games and four of their last five. Denver will look to bounce back against the Raiders after getting dominated earlier in the season.

These two teams are sitting on the outside of the playoff picture once again this season, but are playing for pride in this one. Las Vegas had a great chance to make the playoffs, but blew their opportunity as the season went along. The Raiders will look to finish the season strong, while Denver will look to put an exclamation on Las Vegas’ late season collapse.

Previous Matchups

The Raiders and the Broncos met up in Week 10 in Las Vegas. Drew Lock had a passing touchdown on the afternoon, but Denver’s offense could not do much. Josh Jacobs and Devontae Booker both scored two touchdowns on the day. The Raiders offense was able to run all over the Broncos defense in route to a 37-12 win on the afternoon.

Las Vegas met up with the Miami Dolphins last week. Derek Carr had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown. Tua Tagovailoa and Ryan Fitzpatrick both had a passing touchdown on the day. Jason Sanders and Daniel Carlson both went 4-4 on field goals, but Carlson missed an extra point, which was the difference. The Dolphins were able to sneak away with a 26-25 win on the road.

The Broncos faced off against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 16. Drew Lock had a rushing touchdown, while Brandon McManus went 3-4 on field goal tries. Justin Herbert had a passing touchdown and Michael Badgley made all four of his field goal attempts to push the Chargers to a 19-16 win at home.

These two teams are coming tough losses in Week 16. Denver had a chance to tie it and comeback against Los Angeles for the second time in this season. The Raiders watched the game clinching field goal go in as time expired. Both teams will look to finish this game out stronger as they look for a win on Sunday afternoon.

Quarterback Comparison

Derek Carr will get the start for the Raiders in this one. Carr has had a strong season with Las Vegas so far. He has thrown for 3732 yards, 25 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. Carr has also rushed for 139 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last week Carr went 21-34 for 336 yards and 2 total touchdowns on the night. If Carr can put up another strong performance this week, it will help lead the Raiders to a win.

Drew Lock will be the starter for Denver to end this season. Lock has struggled throughout this season, but is still looking to finish strong. He has thrown for 2594 yards, 14 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Lock has rushed for another 153 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 24-47 for 264 yards, 1 rushing touchdown and 2 interceptions throughout last week’s loss.

Las Vegas has the edge at Quarterback in this one. Carr has had a strong season so far this season. Lock has struggled with turning over the ball this season and will need to protect it in this one. If the Raiders can force turnovers early in this one, it could give them an edge. Carr will need to break through on this defense that played well against the Chargers last week.

Offense vs Defense

The Raiders offense has played well so far this season, but their defense has been their weakness. Las Vegas has scored 402 points throughout this season, which is 11th in the league. The Raiders have gained 5668 yards of offense, which is 10th in the NFL. Las Vegas has given up 447 points and 5779 yards, which is 29th and 24th in the league.

Denver has struggled on both sides of the ball this season, but their defense has been slightly better. The Broncos offense has scored 292 points and gained 4923 yards, which is 29th and 27th in the NFL. Denver’s defense has given up 414 points, which is 25th in the league. The Broncos have had opposing teams gain 5422 yards, which is 19th in the NFL.

These two teams have struggled overall this season, but Las Vegas has been the better offense this season. The Raiders will need their defense to step up in this one to keep the Broncos offense quiet. If Denver’s defense can put up a stronger performance like they did last week, they will have a great chance to earn a win on Sunday afternoon.

Pick Overview

The Raiders will look to finish this season out strong after blowing their playoff chances late in the season. Las Vegas was knocked out by Denver last season and I do not think they will come out slow in this one. The Raiders will want some revenge on this Broncos team and I think they will play well. If Las Vegas’s offense can play well early, they should be able to earn a win on Sunday.

BetOnline has the Raiders listed as a -2 ½ against the spread in this one. This gives a solid edge to Las Vegas on the road. These two teams are coming off poor seasons but will look to earn a win in this one. The Raiders have had the better offense and if they can break through on this Broncos defense, they should be able to earn a win to finish the season.
