Redskins Cowboys Spread Line and Predictions Week 15 NFL

Dallas handed a win to Washington in Week 1 at FedEx Field. It’s hard to imagine that happening again. It is rare in this rivalry that both teams are playing well. If the Redskins’ coaching staff is looking for reasons to bench Donovan McNabb, it might find plenty during this game. Dallas’ pass rush should cause fits. Ryan Torain at least gives the ‘Skins a glimmer of hope. The (4-9) Dallas Cowboys will look to avenge last weeks loss to the Eagles against the (5-8) Rex Grossman lead Washington Redskins, kickoff slated for 1 PM EST. Both teams endured close losses at home last Sunday. Dallas fell 30-27 to Philadelphia and Washington lost 17-16 to Tampa Bay. This is the home finale for Dallas, which is 1-6 at Cowboys Stadium and assured of its worst finish at home since the 1989 team dropped all eight games.

Coach Mike Shannahan made one of the more surprising moves of the week in benching perennial all-star quarterback Donovan McNabb for the remainder of the season. McNabb, acquired from Philadelphia in the offseason, is turning in his worst season as a full-time starter with a rating of 77.1 and a career-high 15 interceptions. He was surprisingly benched for Grossman in the final two minutes with the game on the line against Detroit in October, a decision made even more bizarre by Shanahan’s mangled explanations that followed. With the New York Giants beating Minnesota Vikings on Monday night the Redskins have been eliminated from the playoffs as they trail both the Giants and Eagles by four games with three to play for the final wildcard spot. The Saints currently hold the first wildcard spot in the NFC with a 10-3 record. The team hit’s the road for the seventh time where they stand at 3-3 on the season. They have two road wins against winning teams in Philadelphia and Chicago. The Redskins are a struggling team losers of 5 of their past 6 games and three straight. The team is coming off a 17-16 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a +1 point home underdog. The team blew an extra point in the closing seconds in defeat as the team rallied for a late possible game tying touchdown. The club put up 399 yards and converted on just 6 of 16 on third down. Washington ran the ball effectively with 188 yards on 28 carries for well over 6 ½ yards per rush. The Redskins got in the end zone in only 2 of 5 red zone tries. Washington’s defense is currently ranked dead-last overall; 29th against the pass and 28th against the run. It is giving up an average of 23.8 points per game, ranking it 23rd in the league. The arrival of Donovan McNabb from Philadelphia gave new hope for the Redskins’ offense, but after 13 games they are ranked 28th in the league in scoring; averaging just 18.3 points per game.

The Dallas story this season has been one of deep despair, but possible redemption depending on the outcome of its last three games. Interim head coach Jason Garrett has been able to coax three wins in the last five games out of a team that stumbled its way to a 1-7 start. Injuries along the way to quarterback Tony Romo and more recently WR/KR Dez Bryant have not helped the Cowboys cause, but the general feeling is this team still has enough talent to lineup and wins every week. The Dallas Cowboys enters this game with a record of 4-9 on the season and eliminated from playoff contention. The team puts up 24 points and 364 yards per game. The Cowboys are at home for the eighth time this season where they sit at 1-6. Their only home win came in a 35-19 victory against the Detroit Lions. The team is coming off a 30-27 defeat to NFC east division rivals the Philadelphia Eagles last week as a +4 point home underdog. Dallas put up 349 yards and converted on 3 of 11 on third down. The team ran it 24 times for 110 yards with a 4 ½ yards per rush average. The team got in the end zone in two of three tries inside the red zone. Quarterback Jon Kitna hit on 24 of 35 passes for 242 yards with two touchdowns and no picks. Running back Felix Jones on 13 carries ran for 41 yards with a score. Jones had 4 catches out of the backfield for 42 yards. Tashard Choice was mediocre with 16 yards on 7 carries. Tight end Jason Witten had 7 catches for 69 yards and two touchdowns. On defense the club allows its opponents 28 points and 367 yards per game. The team has been atrocious on defense since the coaching change allowing well over 30 points per game over their past three games. The Cowboys gave up 429 yards to the Eagles offense and 4 of 11 on third down. Dallas was crushed on the ground by their NFC east foe for 171 yards on 27 carries for nearly 6 ½ yards per rush average.

Redskins vs Cowboys Prediction for Week 15:

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – With the suspension of DT Albert Haynesworth and the benching of QB Donovan McNabb it looks as though the Redskins are already looking to next year and want to evaluate the talent they have. Washington is 1-5 SU in its last 6 games and are 2-4 ATS in its last 6 games. Washington is 4-13 SU in its last 17 games on the road and is 7-18 SU in its last 25 games when playing Dallas. The Cowboys have played quite well under Jason Garrett and QB Jon Kitna looks as though he still has what it takes to be a starting quarterback in this league. Dallas is 12-2 SU in its last 14 games when playing at home against Washington. Both these teams are left playing for pride, but there is more on the line for the Cowboys, who are still auditioning for their jobs in the eyes of owner Jerry Jones. Normally the Redskins would find a way to keep a game like this close, but after last week’s disaster against the Buccaneers this team is in for a major letdown this week. Take a look at America’s team stomping all over the men from the nations capital.

Top Play Prediction = Cowboys -7.5

Game Total Prediction – Quarterback Jon Kitna looks like he drank out of the fountain of youth before taking over the reins of the Cowboys offense as the ageless wonder is proving all doubters wrong. The Cowboys offense has exploded under Kitna’s lead and defenses are having difficulty limiting the scoring. The total has gone OVER in 5 of Dallas’s last 5 games, also the total has gone OVER in 5 of Dallas’s last 5 games at home. QB Rex Grossman, for all his faults, is actually a very viable and solid backup quarterback. People seem to forget that he guided the leagues number 5 rated offense in 2005 in Chicago, an offense that put up 25.3 points per contest. I believe this game will be a game of heated battle and passionate auditions for next year’s sake. RB Felix Jones will have his opportunities to scorch this banged up Redskins defensive unit, which should produce some points. We will consider the OVER as both teams will be playing for no more then pride come this Sunday.

Prediction = OVER 44.5 Total Points
