The New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl last season and as such are getting everyone’s best game when they play so far this season. The team is 3-1 but could easily have lost any of the 4 games. Championship teams are resilient and win those games though. They have struggled ATS, going just 1-3 so far as their offense has looked out of sync compared to past seasons. The team outlasted division rival Carolina 16-14 last week. The Saints are scoring just 19.8 points per game (15th in the NFL) after leading the league in scoring last season. Their biggest problem has been establishing a running game, where injuries have taken their toll. The team is 30th in the league with just 73.2 rushing yards per game. Drew Brees does however lead the 5th ranked passing attack, as he has thrown for 1131 yards and 7 touchdowns, with just 2 interceptions.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals have really struggled this season following the retirement of QB Kurt Warner. Matt Leinart lost the job in the preseason and was cut. Since then, Derek Anderson has played poorly and is being replaced this week by 6th round rookie Max Hall out of BYU. The team is 2-2 so far but have only beaten Oakland and St Louis and they did so by a slim margin. They are 31st in the NFL on offense, with just 249 yards per game. Meanwhile, the defense is giving up 388 yards per game, which is 29th in the NFL. Nothing seems to be going right, and the team is fairly lucky to have any wins on the season.

Saints vs. Cardinals Prediction for Week 5:

Spread Prediction (TOP PLAY) – New Orleans has not looked quite right so far this season. Some of that is likely attributed to a bit of a Super Bowl hangover and part due to every team bringing their ‘A’ game every week at the Saints. I expect the Saints to make it a miserable day for rookie QB Max Hall. Saints’ defensive co-ordinator Gregg Williams is great at bringing pressure through the blitz and the rookie may not know what hit him. Arizona is 1-4 ATS in their last 5, while New Orleans is 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 games on spread.

Top Play Prediction: SAINTS -7

Game Total Prediction – The Saints have struggled on offense this year so far, but still have all of the weapons they have in the past few years to put points up. Drew Brees has been solid so far this year and the Cardinals have really struggled to play defense. I fully expect the Saints to have their breakout week on offense and put up a good chunk of points. The Saints’ defense may even be able to score a touchdown themselves with the rookie quarterback in. The total has gone over in 17 of the Saints’ last 24 as a road favorite. Five of the Cardinals’ last 6 games have also gone over the posted total.

Prediction: OVER 44 points
