Saints vs. Redskins Pick:
Last week was not pretty for Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. Not at all. Losing at home to an awful Titans squad is about as low as it gets, and their string of confusing play continues into Week 10. It was apparent that Brees struggled with the pressure in his face on Sunday, and it’s not going to get easier as Washington can do the same. The ‘Skins were decent last week vs. the explosive Tom Brady and will look to build on that at home in Week 10. It should also be mentioned that Brees historically has been much worse outdoors, away from the dome in New Orleans. The Saints will move the chains, but if the ‘Skins can limit their inconsistent attack like they somewhat managed to do last week vs. the Patriots, it’ll give their offense a shot to win this game.
On the other side of the ball, while Washington may not be able to fully stop Brees and Ingram and Cooks, they should be able to score enough to keep pace with the Saints. New Orleans has a simply awful defense, even worse than Washington’s! They enter Week 10 ranking 28th vs. the run and 31st vs. the pass. Kirk Cousins will have time and space in the pocket to find his talented receivers, and hopefully this week they can catch the football! Matt Jones should have a ton of running room as well to march through Rob Ryan’s awful defense. They give up a ton of big plays, and the Saints are currently on track to concede the highest opponents’ passer rating in NFL history (112.0). They also have allowed seven of their past opponents to eclipse 400 yards in a game. As bad as Washington can be, this is something they will exploit. New Orleans is historically awful at defense, and they’ll have no answers for Cousins on Sunday.
Simply put, neither defense will be able to stop the opposing offense in this one. But I like the ‘Skins chances at home in the outdoors a bit more. That was a crushing loss for New Orleans last week and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond. Washington isn’t all that bad to begin with, and should break out taking on such a brutal defense after weeks of tough games. Side with Washington to send the Saints some more misery on Sunday.
PICK = Redskins +1.5 (-110)
