San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks NFL Week 13 Pick – December 5

It’s been quite the down season for the lowly Seattle Seahawks, and despite all of their offensive talent remain a struggling group entering Week 13. Seattle sits at 3-8 and even though Russell
Wilson has returned to action, this Seahawks team isn’t showing much offensively.

That’s not good news given the 49ers are coming to town. With a 6-5 record and firmly in playoff contention in the tough NFC West, San Francisco will be eager for another solid defensive showing. The Niners have won three-straight contests, and are finally playing like the team many believed they could be.

Seattle meanwhile is coming off of a Monday Night loss to Washington, and with a confusing Niners’ offense to prepare for – you have to wonder about the mindset of this veteran group. With changes likely coming for this franchise, will Seattle rally in the second half, or will they fade into oblivion down the stretch? One thing is for certain, we’ll likely learn quite a bit about this team’s resilience here in Week 13.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Seattle Seahawks Prediction

While it hasn’t been the return either Russell Wilson or his Seahawks’ teammates would have hoped for over the past few weeks, this Seattle offense showed some slight signs of progress vs. Washington their last time out. Wilson still isn’t 100% healthy and that much is obvious, though with increased scrambles and arm strength, optimism does exist going forward. Let’s not forget this is a veteran group, and one that believes they can win out and contend for a playoff spot.

Wilson himself poses a tough matchup for the Niners’ defense. San Francisco continues to struggle with personnel and performance within their secondary. Last week the Vikings torched them through the air, and with DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett, the Seahawks’ seem well-suited to do the same.

Historically Wilson has also done quite well over his past few meetings against the Niners. San Francisco has struggled to contain scrambling quarterbacks, and he should be able to use his legs to buy time or pick up yardage on the ground. Expect a better showing Sunday at home from this Seattle attack.

The Niners will counter with Jimmy Garoppolo who continues to struggle under centre for San Francisco. Despite being put in promising situations and having intriguing weapons, it seems as if the Niners are winning in spite of the QB. This week will be tough however as Deebo Samuel will not play due to a groin injury. That’s a massive loss for San Fran’s offense as much of what they try to do, runs through Samuel.

Seattle has also clamped down on opposing rush offenses quite well, which is going to force Jimmy G to drop back and air it out more regularly. He’s been prone to turnovers and mistakes when asked to do too much, and Sunday could be another example of that. While a lot has seemed to go right lately for San Francisco, don’t count out Seattle given what a good matchup this appears to be for them, at least on paper!

49ers vs. Seahawks Trends To Know:

  • 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf.
  • 49ers are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games in December.
  • 49ers are 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games as a favorite.
  • Seahawks are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games in Week 13.
  • Seahawks are 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games as an underdog.
  • 49ers are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 meetings in Seattle.

The Niners haven’t fared well in Seattle over their past few meetings, and despite a nice stretch, injuries could play a role in a surprising demise come Sunday.  Don’t write this proud, veteran Seahawks team off just yet.  Russell Wilson remains an elite QB and will be keen on showing it in a key divisional showdown.  This line has moved too much given that the Niners will be without both Deebo Samuel and Fred Warner.  Seattle takes advantage of that in Week 13 and covers this number.

My Pick
Seahawks +3.5
