A Niners/Seahawks match-up on Thursday Night Football used to mean a lot more than it will in Week 7 of the 2015 regular season. Both teams used to be the cream of the crop in this division, and two of the best teams in the entire league. Now though, these teams have lost their lustre and as both squads limp into this match-up on short rest, you’ve got to wonder about their respective directions. Seattle looks lost offensively and has struggled to get key stops defensively. They easily could have and should have lost to the Lions a couple weeks ago, and suffered a stunning defeat last week vs. Carolina. The aura of the ‘12th Man’ seems to have disappeared and teams no longer fear coming to the Pacific Northwest. Enter the Niners who are the same 2-4 record as Seattle, and are fresh off a convincing victory over the Baltimore Ravens. San Francisco has some big holes on their team, but can still be dangerous especially on home turf. For the Seahawks, it’s crunch time, and if they’re the Super Bowl contenders many still see them as, it’s time to get going. It will be fascinating to watch this game, so read on below for your game prediction and breakdown.

Seahawks vs. 49ers Pick:
Even though the Seahawks are 2-4 this is still a talented group that has faced its fair share of adversity in recent seasons. Last week was not pretty – not by any means. But teams have down weeks, and I’m going to chalk that performance up to that. This is still a good football team with solid coaching and QB play and when they’re on – one of the best defenses in football. You just can’t write the Seahawks off – yet. One point to note from last week is that finally it seemed like Russell Wilson and his stud tight-end Jimmy Graham got into a bit of a groove. The duo hooked up multiple times, and if there is some carryover from the last game – the Seahawks will be better for it. It’s no secret Wilson has been put in bad spots this season due to a porous O-Line without Max Unger, but fortunately San Francisco doesn’t have much of a pass rush. Look for the Seattle QB to be working from better positions on Thursday night.
San Francisco also boasts a pretty poor secondary at the moment, so even though the Seahawks aren’t loaded with talented receivers, openings should be there for a motivated Seattle squad. Even on the ground, look for Seattle to be able to inflict a ton of damage. The 49ers run defense isn’t all that great so look for Lynch to pump those powerful legs to first downs whenever he wishes. It’s about time for a dominating performance from Beast Mode, so look for the Pro Bowler to put his struggling team on his back and run them to a victory.
On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks defense is still the Seahawks defense. Though they’ve looked vulnerable in some areas, you’re not going to write them off entirely. Sure some players are struggling, but Colin Kaepernick and an awful Niners’ offense won’t be able to exploit that. San Francisco has turned in good outings vs. the Giants and Ravens, and Seattle still boasts a much better defense at their absolute worse than those two units. The biggest issue for San Francisco moving the football will be containing the Seahawks’ ferocious front-seven and that pass rush. The 49ers don’t shield Kaepernick all that well, and even though he can be quite mobile in the pocket, they remain in the bottom-five of the NFL in sacks conceded. Look for Seattle to pressure and hurry Kaepernick early and often on Thursday, resulting in some favourable turnovers for the Seahawks.
This is it for Seattle – there’s no more messing around. The Seahawks are still a great team and will take to the field Thursday night eager to prove just that. It’s against a bitter divisional rival on national television, so motivation will not be an issue for Pete Carroll’s hungry squad. Seattle needs some wins, and they’ve manhandled the Niners in recent seasons as this is a good match-up for their skillset. Look for a clinical outing all-around from Seattle, en route to a convincing road victory.
PICK = Seahawks -6.5 (-115)
