While 2013 hasn’t exactly been a great year for the New York Giants, their opponents on Sunday enter the Meadowlands with a lot to play for. Fresh off a disheartening Week 14 loss against the rival 49ers, Seattle opens the week with an 11-3 record, desperately trying to secure homefield advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. They’re remarkable at home, and playing in front of their crowd in the post-season could very well lead them right into a trip back to New York to play in the Super Bowl on the first Sunday of February. But road tests for Seattle rarely come easy, especially against a prideful Giants squad that will want to prove their 2013 debacle was just a blip on the radar. It’s a big battle between two teams riddled with stars, and though it truly only matters for one squad, this contest should be an intriguing one throughout. Seahawks at Giants Pick:
Despite the fact that the New York Giants enter the final three weeks of their season with virtually nothing to play for, they remain a veteran-laden squad filled with pride. They will not cruise into the off-season, especially not in front of their home crowd. In Week 15, they face a huge test, and one in which their star players will most certainly get up for. It’s always exciting to take on one of the best teams in the NFL and expect the G-Men to use this game as a measuring stick for off-season evaluation and 2014 preparation. Eli Manning wasn’t all that great last week in San Diego, and look for him to turn in an inspired rebound performance. Manning has had a year to forget in 2013, and he’ll be out to prove he remains among the game’s elite flight of quarterbacks.
While the Giants’ defense has been pretty brutal this year, snow is in the forecast for Sunday’s game. Expect the aerial assault of Russell Wilson to be nullified, and allow the Giants to hang around in this one. The weather can be a great equalizer and with four-to-eight inches of snow in the forecast, expect a messy and sloppy affair to keep this contest tight.
Where the Giants could potentially do some damage is with their running game. Seattle’s secondary is banged up right now, but it’s their front-seven that has been incredibly unpredictable of late. They have been very inconsistent at stopping the run all season long, and look for a talented back like Andre Brown to be able to exploit that.
When the Seahawks come to the east coast, it’s no secret that they traditionally struggle, especially with the early start times. This is never a good spot for Seattle, and after last week’s disheartening defeat in San Francisco, you have to wonder where their heads are at. The Giants have mailed it in against poorer squads, but will turn in a great effort for the great teams. They very much play-up to their competition, and expect Eli and the gang to be ready for Sunday. As previously stated, this is a prideful group in New York who would like to salvage their season with a win in Week 15. The Giants haven’t been a bigger home underdog since 2007. It’s a rare role for the G-Men but ultimately one they should play well in. Take the Giants to cover, but Seattle should escape with the victory.
PICK = Giants +7.5 (-115)
