Pittsburgh Steelers vs Baltimore Ravens Week 8 Pick – NFL November 1

The NFL is set up with another great week of action on Sunday. Twelve games are up on the board throughout November 1. One of these games will be between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens. This will mark the first time this season these two divisional rivals will meet up this season. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.

The Steelers have earned a record of 6-0 throughout this season, which has them in first place of the AFC North. Pittsburgh is the last remaining undefeated team. The Steelers are looking to keep up their division lead with a big win over the Ravens. Pittsburgh is coming off a huge win on the road last week, but will need to do it again this week.

Baltimore has posted a record of 5-1 throughout this season, which has them in second place of the AFC North. The Ravens are in a tight race for the division as they are one game behind the Steelers and one game ahead of the Cleveland Browns. Baltimore is coming off a big bye week, in which they will look to be more prepared for this one.

These two teams have had very strong starts to the season, but it is the Steelers who are a bit better. The Ravens will look to end Pittsburgh’s undefeated start on Sunday afternoon. Coming off a bye week will be big for Baltimore, but look for the Steelers to come out hot after knocking off the Titans last week. I expect a really good matchup between these two teams in Sunday’s early window.

Previous Matchups

The Steelers and the Ravens met up twice throughout last season. The first game was in Pittsburgh in Week 5. Mason Rudolph had a passing touchdown, while James Connor rushed for one. Lamar Jackson had a passing touchdown and Mark Ingram had a rushing touchdown. Both teams went back and forth before Justin Tucker tied it late in regulation and won it in overtime. The Ravens won 26-23 on the road.

The second meeting of the season was in Baltimore in Week 17. Benny Snell Jr. had a rushing touchdown to give the Steelers an early lead. Justice Hill had a rushing touchdown and Jordan Richards had a defensive touchdown. The Ravens were able to ride a dominant defensive performance to a nice 28-10 win to finish out the regular season.

Pittsburgh’s last game was against the 5-0 Tennessee Titans in Week 7. Ben Roethlisberger had two passing touchdowns to Diontae Johnson, and Benny Snell Jr. had a rushing touchdown as the Steelers took a 27-7 lead. Ryan Tannehill had two passing touchdowns and Derrick Henry rushed for one as the Titans tried to come back. Pittsburgh was able to hold on though for a 27-24 win.

The Ravens met up with the Philadelphia Eagles before their bye week in Week 6. Lamar Jackson had a rushing touchdown and a passing touchdown. Gus Edwards rushed in another touchdown as the Ravens were able 30-14. Carson Wentz had two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown on the day as the Eagles had a chance to tie it with a two point conversion. Baltimore was able to hold on for a 30-28 win.

Quarterback Comparison

Ben Roethlisberger is back as the starting Quarterback for the Steelers after missing most of last season with injury. This season Roethlisberger has thrown for 1446 yards, 13 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Last week, Roethlisberger went 32-49 for 268 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. The Steelers will need him to avoid the turnovers in this one.

Lamar Jackson is the starting QB for the Ravens this season. After winning the MVP last season, Jackson has thrown for 1135 yards, 10 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Jackson has rushed for another 346 yards and 2 touchdowns. In his last matchup, Jackson went 16-27 for 186 yards and a touchdown. He rushed for another 108 yards and a touchdown.

These two Quarterbacks play very different games, but have both done very well throughout this season. Jackson continues to burn defenses with his duel threat ability. This game will come down to the battle of defenses as both teams try to shut down the offense. In either Quarterback can get their team an early lead, it could be enough to finish with the win.

Defensive Battle

The Steelers have been solid on the offensive end this season. Pittsburgh has scored 183 points and gained 2152 yards, which is 6th and 21st in the NFL. The Steelers have shined on the defensive side of the ball. Pittsburgh has held their opponents to 118 points and 1718 yards, which is 6th and 1st in the league this season.

Baltimore has also been doing well on the offensive side of the ball this season. The Ravens have scored 179 points and have gained 2053 yards, which is 8th and 27th in the league. Baltimore has also played their best football on defense. The Ravens have held opposing teams to 104 points and 2039 yards, which is 1st and 9th in the NFL.

These two teams have had solid offensive production, but it has been their defense that has dominated. The Steelers have not given up a lot of yards, while the Ravens have kept their opponents out of the endzone. If either team can jump out to an early lead, it could help give them a big advantage. Look for both teams to come out slower on offense as they try to feel out the defense and make them make a mistake.

Pick Overview

The Ravens are coming off their bye week into this game, which I think will help lead to a big win on Sunday. Pittsburgh has put up an undefeated record so far this season, but I do not expect that to continue past this game. With this Ravens coming off a bye week, I think that they will use that to their advantage to gain an early lead to ride to a win.

BetOnline has Baltimore listed as a -3 ½ against the spread in this matchup. This implies that the Ravens have a slight edge in this one. I agree with this line. While Pittsburgh has jumped out to an undefeated record, this seems like the game that will end it. The Steelers have to go on the road against a division rival, which I think will give the Ravens a nice edge to take the lead of the division back.
