Houston Texans vs Chicago Bears Week 14 Pick – NFL December 13

The NFL is set up with another busy weekend of football in Week 14. Fourteen games will be up on the board throughout Sunday. One of these games will be between the Houston Texans and the Chicago Bears. These two teams have struggled a bit throughout the season but will both look to earn a win in this one. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.

The Texans have earned a record of 4-8 throughout this season, which has them sitting in third place of the AFC South division. Houston has won three of their last five games coming into this one. The Texans could not pull off the victory in last week’s game, but will look to bounce back in a bigger way in this one. Look for Houston to come out strong as they look to keep the solid finish to the season going.

Chicago has put up a record of 5-7 so far this season, which has them sitting in third place of the NFC North. The Bears started out the season with a record of 5-1, but have dropped six games in a row since that strong start. Chicago needs to get something going on offense if they want to make a playoff push this season. The Bears have not had any consistency this season on offense, but they will have a chance to get it going against Houston on Sunday.

These two teams have not had memorable season’s so far this campaign, but a strong finish for either team could change that. The best that Houston could do is 8-8 on the season, which will need some help if it is going to sneak into the playoffs. The Bears could go 9-7 though if they win out, which might be enough to snag a playoff spot in the NFC this season.

Previous Matchups

Houston faced off against the Indianapolis Colts in their Week 13. Deshaun Watson and David Johnson both rushed for touchdowns in the matchup, but it wan not enough for the win. Philip Rivers threw for two touchdowns, while Nyheim Hines had a rushing touchdown. The Colts were able to sack Watson in the endzone late to put the game away. Indianapolis finished with a 26-20 win.

The Bears met up with the Detroit Lions last week at home. Chicago saw David Montgomery rush for two touchdowns and Cordarrelle Patterson rush for another. The Bears jumped out to a 30-20 lead, but the Lions came marching back. Matthew Stafford had three passing touchdowns, while Adrian Peterson punched in another two. Detroit took the lead with less than two minutes to go as they won 34-30.

The Texans and the Bears are both coming off tough losses last week as both teams had a chance to win it. Chicago had a 10 point lead with less than three minutes left, but allowed the Lions to score twice. Houston had a chance to lead a come from behind drive, but took the safety instead. Both teams will need to clean up their performances from last week.

Quarterback Comparison

Deshaun Watson is the starting Quarterback for the Texans this season. Watson has put up a really strong performance throughout this campaign. He has thrown for 3542 yards, 24 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Watson has also rushed for 331 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last week he went 26-38 for 341 yards, a rushing touchdown and an interception.

Mitchell Trubisky is back starting under center for the Bears this season. Trubisky has not been great this season, but has a chance to get Chicago back up and running. He has thrown for 1069 yards, 10 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Trubisky went 26-34 for 267 yards and a touchdown in last week’s loss to the Lions.

Houston has a big edge in this one with Watson as their starting Quarterback. Watson has put up much better stats throughout this season, but Trubisky has found a way to win some games. He is 3-2 in his starts this season. If the Bears can build some offensive help around Trubisky it could be enough to break through the Texans struggling defense.

Offense vs Defense

The Texans offense has been better throughout this season. Houston has been able to score 288 points, which is 18th in the NFL this season. The Texans have gained 4371 yards of offense, which is 16th in the league. Houston has allowed their opponents to score 323 points and gain 4876 yards of offense, which are 24th and 30th in the NFL.

Chicago’s offense has been pretty much nonexistent throughout this season. The Bears have scored 246 points and gain 3748 yards, which are 28th and 30th in the league this season. Chicago’s defense has been good, giving them a chance throughout this season. The Bears have held opposing teams to 284 points, which is 12th in the NFL.  Chicago has only given up 4254 yards as well, which is 15th in the league.

I believe that the Bears defense will be able to slow down Deshaun Watson and Houston’s offense in this one. Chicago will need to find a way to break through on the offensive side of the ball though. The Texans defense has not been great this season, which will give them a great opportunity to earn the win. I expect the Bears to come out strong as they look to finally end this long losing streak.

Pick Overview

The Bears have struggled throughout the second half of this season, dropping six games in a row. Chicago has still had a solid defense, which could shut down the Texans. The Bears will need their offense to step up though, which has not been able to put up solid numbers at all this season. Chicago got the offense going last week and will look to find some rhythm early in this one.

BetOnline has Houston listed as a -131 against the money line in this one. This implies that the Texans will win this game around 56.7 percent of the time. I think this line is too big for two teams that have had subpar seasons. The Bears are at home in this one and I expect them to at least put up a fight against the Texans. I think Chicago has a good chance to finally end the losing streak on Sunday.
