Houston Texans vs Indianapolis Colts Week 15 Pick – NFL December 20

The NFL is set up with another great Sunday of action this week as we enter the final stretch. Twelve games will be up on the board throughout December 20. One of these games will be between the Houston Texans and the Indianapolis Colts. These two teams will both look to earn a big victory over their division rival on Sunday. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.

The Texans have earned a record of 4-9 throughout this season, which has them sitting in third place of the AFC South. Houston has not had a great season so far and will look to play a bit of spoiler for the Colts on Sunday. The Texans have lost back to back games, including one of them to Indianapolis. Houston will look to bounce back in this one though.

Indianapolis has put up a record of 9-4 this season, which has them sitting in second place of the AFC South. The Colts are tied with the Tennessee Titans for the top spot, but the Titans have the tie breaker over them for now. Indianapolis will look to avoid another loss in the division as they look to win the division. The Colts have won four of their last five coming into this one.

The Colts have been the better team throughout this season, but with this being a divisional game, I expect Houston to come out strong. The Texans were embarrassed in their last outing and will look to bounce back with a win in this one. Houston had won three of four before this two game losing streak and will look to get back on track to finish the season out strong.

Previous Matchups

The Texans and the Colts met up in Week 13 in Houston. Deshaun Watson and David Johnson both had rushing touchdowns, but it was not enough for the Texans. Philip Rivers had two passing touchdowns on the day, while Nyheim Hines added a rushing touchdown. Indianapolis got a safety late to put away Houston with a 26-20 victory at home.

Houston met up with the Chicago Bears last week. Deshaun Watson had a touchdown pass to Keke Coutee, but that was all the offense the Texans could muster. Mitchell Trubisky had a fantastic outing, throwing for three touchdowns. David Montgomery had an 80 yard touchdown run as the Bears dominated the Texans for a 36-7 victory.

The Colts met up with the Las Vegas Raiders last week. Derek Carr had two passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown on the day. Philip Rivers threw for two touchdowns as well, while Jonathan Taylor had two rushing touchdowns. Khari Willis took an interception to the house as Indianapolis was able to earn a 44-27 win over the Raiders.

These two teams have very opposite performances last week. The Texans were dominated from start to finish, while Indianapolis was able to blowout the Raiders. Houston will look to erase the loss from memory as they enter this week. The Colts scored 24 points in the second half and will look to carry that momentum over into this one.

Quarterback Comparison

Deshaun Watson is starting under center for the Texans this season. Despite his teams struggles this season, Watson has had a strong campaign. He has thrown for 3761 yards, 25 touchdowns and 6 interceptions. Watson has also rushed for 369 yards and 3 touchdowns. Last week he went 21-30 for 219 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

Philip Rivers was brought over in the offseason to Quarterback for Indianapolis. Rivers has done well in his first season with the Colts. He has thrown for 3507 yards, 20 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Rivers went 19-28 for 244 yards and 2 touchdowns in last weeks win over the Raiders. Indianapolis will look for him to put up another strong performance in this one.

Houston has the edge at the Quarterback spot with Watson starting, but the Texans have lots of other holes in the lineup. Houston has the worst run game in the league this season, which has put a lot of pressure on Watson. If the Colts can force Watson to beat them in the air, it will make it a lot easier on themselves. Rivers has only thrown three interceptions in the last seven weeks and will look to keep that up.

Offense vs Defense

Houston’s offense has been the better side of the football for them throughout this season. The Texans have scored 295 points, which is 23rd in the league. Houston has gained 4634 yards of offense, which is 18th in the NFL. The Texans have given up 359 points and 5286 yards to opposing teams this season, which is 25th and 31st in the league this season.

The Colts have been dangerous on both sides of the ball this season. Indianapolis has been able to score 372 points and gain 4897 yards of offense, which is 5th and 9th in the NFL. The Colts defense has held their opponents to 300 points, which is 12th in the league. Indianapolis has only given up 4252 yards of offense, which is 6th in the NFL.

Indianapolis is the better team on both sides of the ball in this one. In their Week 13 meeting, the Texans outgained the Colts 398-371. Houston will need to move the ball well again in this one if they want a chance. Indianapolis forced two turnovers in that game, which the Texans will look to limit in this one. If Houston can avoid turning the ball over though, it could give them a chance in this one.

Pick Overview

The Texans are coming off a huge loss against the Bears last week, while Indianapolis took care of business against the Raiders. The Colts are in the middle of a tight playoff race with the Tennessee Titans, but I think Houston will keep this one close. The Texans might not be as good as they were a season ago, but I think they will continue to compete in this rivalry game.

BetOnline has the Colts listed as a -7 against the spread in this one. This gives a solid edge to Indianapolis at home, which I agree with. Houston was embarrassed last week, and I think they will come out prepared in this one. This divisional game was close two weeks ago and I think that the Texans will be able to keep it close once again.
