Houston Texans vs Tennessee Titans Week 6 Pick – NFL October 18

The NFL is set up with another exciting Sunday full of action. Twelve games will be up on the board throughout October 18. One of these games will be between the Houston Texans and the Tennessee Titans. These two teams have had opposite starts to the season but will look to earn a big divisional win. This game will kick off at around 1:00 PM Eastern time.

The Texans have earned a record of 1-4 to open up the season, which has them in third place of the AFC South. Houston finally broke through with their first win last week. The Texans will look to earn a big win in this one as they try to crawl back into playoff contention. I expect Houston to try and come out quick on the road in this one.

Tennessee has earned a record of 4-0 to start this season, which has them in first place of the AFC South. The Titans went to the AFC Championship game last season and will look to keep this momentum going from last season. Tennessee has had some impressive victories this season and will look to earn their second divisional game on Sunday afternoon.

These two teams are coming off wins in Week 5, but it is the Titans who have been much better this season so far. Tennessee has done great, but the Texans have a chance to get back into the playoff race with a win over the Titans. I expect both teams to try and set the pace early as they are looking to earn a big win in the division.

Previous Matchups

The Texans and the Titans met up twice throughout last season. The first meeting was in Week 15 in Tennessee. Ryan Tannehill had a strong performance, throwing for two touchdowns and running for another. The Titans still came up short though. Kenny Stills caught two touchdown passes from Deshaun Watson, while Carlos Hyde had a rushing touchdown. The Texans were able to earn a 24-21 win on the road.

The second meeting of the season series was in Week 17 in Houston. Duke Johnson Jr. had a rushing touchdown and A.J. McCarron had another running touchdown. This time Houston came up short though. Ryan Tannehill had two passing touchdowns, while Derrick Henry ran for three touchdowns. The Titans were able to earn a 35-14 win to finish out the regular season.

The Texans last matchup was against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 5. Gardner Minshew threw for two touchdowns, which was not enough. Deshaun Watson threw for three touchdowns as Houston finally broke through. Ka’imi Fairbairn went 3-3 on field goals as the Texans earned a 30-14 win at home against their division rival.

Tennessee met up with the Buffalo Bills in Week 5 on Tuesday night. Josh Allen threw for two touchdowns Ryan Tannehill threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another. Derrick Henry had two rushing touchdowns as the Titans were able to hand Buffalo their first loss. Tennessee earned a big 42-16 win.

Quarterback Comparison

Houston has a strong starting Quarterback in Deshaun Watson. Watson has thrown for 1451 yards, 9 touchdowns and 5 interceptions this season. In his last outing, Watson went 25-35 for 359 yards, 3 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. Watson will look to clean up his game a bit as he faces a dangerous Titans defense in this one.

The Titans have Ryan Tannehill as their starting Quarterback, and he has revived his career with Tennessee. Tannehill has thrown for 1004 yards, 9 touchdowns and only 1 interception on this season. In the Bills game, Tannehill went 21-28 for 195 yards and 3 touchdowns. The Titans will look for a similar performance from Tannehill in this one.

These two Quarterbacks have had strong starts to the new season. Tannehill has been playing really well, only throwing 1 interception so far, while Watson needs to clean up his turnover issues this season. If Watson and the Texans offense can take care of the ball, it will give Houston a chance to earn a win in this one. The Titans will look for Tannehill to keep up his strong start though.

Offense vs Defense

The Texans offense has struggled to find any offensive consistency this season but could begin to bounce back with their new coach. Houston has averaged 22 points per game and are averaging 359 yards gained per game. The Texans have struggled a bit on defense though. Houston is allowing an average of 28 points per game and 387 yards.

Tennessee has done really well on both sides of the football to start out this season. The Titans 30.5 points per game and 377 yards throughout their first four games. Tennessee is allowing an average of 22.5 points per game. The Titans have allowed 409 yards per game, which is something they will look to improve upon.

While the Titans have had a really good point differential this season, they have allowed their opponents to get a lot of yards. If Houston can move up and down the field, Tennessee will have difficulty keeping them out of the endzone. The Texans will look to get their offense in a groove early in this one, which could help them earn a huge win in their division.

Pick Overview

Houston is coming off their first win of the season and I believe they have a good chance to hand the Titans their first loss of the season. Tennessee has gone undefeated so far this season, but their defense has allowed a lot of yards this season. If the Texans can continue to find rhythm in their offense, I believe they will earn a big win against the Titans.

Bovada has Tennessee listed as a -200 against the money line in this one. This implies that the Titans will win this game around 66.7 percent of the time. I believe this line is wrong. While Houston has not looked good this season, they looked much better with a new coach last week. Now the Texans will try to crawl back into contention with a win on Sunday afternoon.
