Titans Chiefs Spread Line and Betting Odds NFL Week 16

The Chiefs got back on track with a win over the Rams last week, and they got their QB Matt Cassel back in the process. Cassel did enough to guide KC to a win. He returned going 15/29 for 184 yrds, 1TD and 1 INT. But it was the running game that took over late, with Jamal Charles leading the way with 126 yards and a TD on 11 carries. KC face the Titans this week, a team who’ve fallen off the playoff wagon in the second half of the season. The Titans sit at 6-8, and mathematically still in the playoff hunt, but if they don’t win this week they’ll almost guarantee a spot on their couch at home in January.

Tennessee’s problem has been in the passing game. They rank 29th in passing yards and 28th in overall yards, and WR Randy Moss has 5 receptions for 62 yards in the 6 games he’s been with Tennessee. Head coach Jeff Fisher has nothing but praise for Moss, saying he’s a great teammate and great player, and Moss is so far complying saying he’d like to be a Titan next year. While Moss is still trying to get used to the playbook, Kenny Britt is back from injury and is the uncontested number 1 receiver on the team. He caught 6 balls for 128 yards last week in a win over the Texans, and he consistently shows the ability to go deep and to snatch the ball across the middle of the field. The Titans will be hoping to get the passing game going this week and balancing it with Chris Johnson. Johnson lit up the Texans top 10 run defense last week for 130 yards and 1 TD on 24 carries, and there’s certainly room for Johnson to have similar numbers against KC this week with the Chiefs giving up over 100 yards per game on the ground.

KC must win this week. The Chargers, who are 1 game behind the Chiefs, play the Bengals and Broncos to finish off the year, and there’s a strong chance they’ll win out. That would put San Diego at 10-6 for the year. KC play Oakland in week 17, a game that the Raiders will have to win to make the playoffs. This week’s matchup against the Titans means a lot for KC; they should already be in playoff mode.

Titans vs. Chiefs Prediction for Week 16 Betting:

Spread Prediction (Top Play): The Chiefs are the best running team in the NFL. They rush for just over 168 yards per game, while the Titans rank 17th in run defense. If Cassel can be consistent and play turnover free football like he’s done most of the year, then the Chiefs should have no problem winning this game. The key is how they handle Chris Johnson, but the Chiefs have been one of the better home teams in the league this year. They’re 6-0, and have held opponents to an average of 12 points in Arrowhead Stadium, with only the Jags scoring more than 14 points against them. With this game being as important as it is for KC, and with the Titans season almost over, I like the Chiefs to win by a TD. The Titans consistency has been a problem ATS this year. They’re 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a straight up win, and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 overall.

Top Play Prediction = KC -5.

Game Total Prediction: While the Chiefs give up only 12 points per game at home, they score 25. They’ve put up totals of 21 vs. the Chargers, and 31 vs. the Niners, both top 10 defenses. The Titans should be able to move the ball this week. Although points won’t be at a premium, the number is too low for me. With only a 10% chance of rain, passing and running conditions will be good enough to go over this number.

Prediction= Over 42.5.
