After a promising start and a legitimate shot at the post-season, it has suddenly gotten quite dicey for the Tennessee Titans. Last week they turned in an uninspiring effort against the Arizona Cardinals on the road, and here in Week 15 they will again need to take to the road to do battle with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Niners aren’t the best of teams, and the Titans are certainly ahead in class – but the Titans have seemingly been out of sync of late. When you combine that with some new optimism in San Francisco with the emergence of young quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the Titans will need a much better effort if they’re going to keep pace in the AFC South.
Tennessee enters with an 8-5 record and is desperately seeking a win. Though the AFC is especially mediocre this season and they still might make the post-season despite not winning their division, the Titans have a path to guarantee themselves certainty – it’s just a matter of capitalizing and winning games. And though they are just taking on a 3-10 49ers squad, at home the Niners have proven to play competitive football and are definitely on the upswing. This should be an intriguing game to watch, and a very difficult game for the Titans to secure victory. Read on below for more detailed analysis and a betting prediction for the Niners/Titans for Week 15.

Titans vs. 49ers Pick:
The Titans have struggled in recent weeks blocking for Marcus Mariota and that has become a big issue. Mariota took a big shot early last week against the Cardinals and seemingly did not recovered. Their offense sputtered as a result and the bad news is that he’s in for more of the same against the San Francisco pass rush. DeForest Buckner is having a great season for the Niners and should be in Mariota’s grill for all four quarters.
Not only will there not be much space in the pocket, but running lanes will also be limited for the Titans’ dual-threat attack of Derrick Henry and DeMarco Murray. The 49ers have been very solid at stuffing opposing run games in recent weeks and having Reuben Foster back has also been big with this. Moving the chains will continue to be tough for Tennessee.
San Francisco has lost a lot of close games this season, and most of them are because of awful play from the QB position. As a result, their record is worse than they actually are. Now with Garoppolo getting starts, they’re much improved and trending in the right direction. The former Patriot looks to be the real deal as he’s done more in two outings than anybody has for the Niners in some time at quarterback. He’s looked great on the road against Houston and Chicago, and now coming home to face the Titans should be a breeze. Tennessee has a woeful secondary and has struggled mightily at defending the pass.
Despite the urgency for the Titans to win this game, it’s not like the Niners are simply going to roll over. They’re playing better football of late by a mile, and there is a reason this spread has moved so much in favour of the Niners. The line move is definitely justified and as a result, I think the Niners will take full advantage of a beaten-down Mariota, and expect Garoppolo to impress his hometown fans in his first start in San Francisco.
PICK = 49ers -2 (-110)
