Arizona Coyotes vs. Anaheim Ducks Pick – NHL December 17, 2021

The Arizona Coyotes and Anaheim Ducks meet at the Honda Center on the west coast Friday night. The Coyotes are on a six-game losing streak and see no relief in the future. They’ve lost eight of their last nine games and have dropped to 5-21-2 on the year.

It goes without saying that a record of 5-21-2 gets the Coyotes last-place in the NHL. The Coyotes have only 12 points entering this evening.

They’re 5 points behind the Montreal Canadiens for second-last in the NHL. The Coyotes are in line to finish last, but if you ask Steve Yzerman, he’s going to tell you it doesn’t mean that it’s going to result in the first overall selection.

The Detroit Red Wings were just as terrible a few years ago, but they lost the draft lottery and didn’t “win” for their nice tank job.

Clayton Keller needs some good young talent coming in to join him. Put Keller on a good team, and his production would go up considerably.

Keller has still been solid with 7 goals and 12 assists, but he’s getting little help. No, Phil Kessel is not the answer.

The Ducks are off to a good, if not surprising start to the 2021-22 campaign. They go into Friday night at 17-9-5 and 39 points.

Anaheim is first in the Pacific Division with a three-point advantage over the Calgary Flames. This wasn’t expected for the Ducks, at least not this fast of a turn around.

They were on the verge of a full blown rebuild, and now a retool job has put them at the top of the Pacific. The Ducks are coming off a 4-1 win over the Seattle Kraken on Wednesday.

This could be a tough matchup for a Coyotes team that struggles to find offense. Head below for our free Coyotes vs. Ducks pick on December 17, 2021.

Coyotes vs. Ducks Prediction:

The Coyotes’ offense has been so lost this season that it’s not going to be fixed before the end of this season. They don’t necessarily have an effort issue.

You can talk about a lot of teams in the NHL that have an effort problem, but it’s more a talent problem in Arizona.

Arizona is scoring at an abysmal clip of 1.79 goals per game. Without question, the Coyotes are last in scoring, shots per game at 25.7, and power play a success rate of just 11.8%.

It doesn’t get any worse than that in the NHL. The next worst team in the NHL is the Canadiens with 2.13 goals a game, so it isn’t even a comparison to who has the weakest offense.

On the road it only gets uglier for the Yotes. They have managed to score just 1.33 goals per game. Expect the Ducks to control the pace of this one, which doesn’t look good for the Coyotes’ offense.

Arizona Coyotes vs. Anaheim Ducks Betting Trends:

  • 6-2 overall in their previous eight games versus the Ducks
  • 0-6 overall in their previous six games
  • UNDER is 10-1 in their previous 11 games as an underdog
  • UNDER is 10-1 in their previous 11 games on the road
  • UNDER is 5-1 in their previous six games on one-day rest

  • 9-3 overall in their previous 12 games at the Honda Center
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games versus the Western Conference
  • UNDER is 5-0 in their previous five games
  • UNDER is 4-0 in their previous four games as a favorite
  • UNDER is 4-1 in their previous five games versus the Central Division

The Ducks have had a tight defense at home, as they’ve allowed 2.13 goals per game at the Honda Center. Overall, they’re seventh in the league with 2.6 goals against per game.

In their first meeting this season on November 5, the Ducks held the Coyotes to 1 goal in a 3-1 win. With the Coyotes showing no improvement since then, expect Anaheim to do similar in this one.

Arizona has scored just 1.8 goals per game in their previous ten outings. As long as the Ducks don’t have bad puck luck in this contest, they should hold the Coyotes to little offensive output again.

Note that the UNDER has gone 5-0 in their Ducks last five games with a combined average of 2.8 goals scored per game in regulation during that time. I’m on board with a 3-2 or 3-1 final score to keep this one UNDER the total.
