Arizona Coyotes vs. Dallas Stars Pick – NHL December 6, 2021

The Arizona Coyotes and Dallas Stars are scheduled to meet at the American Airlines Center in Victory Park on Monday night. The Coyotes are going into tonight looking to avoid a three-game skid.

They are losers in four of their last five attempts, with a win against the Winnipeg Jets on November 29. That could have very easily been a loss as well. Karel Vejmelka stood on his head with 46 saves on 46 shots.

The Coyotes put only 15 shots on net, with one of them getting past Connor Hellebuyck. That was a tough loss for the Jets, and puck luck win for the Coyotes.

Following the win, the Coyotes suffered a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild, and then a 7-1 blowout at home to the Vegas Golden Knights. They have regressed to 5-17-2 on the season.

Arizona is 5-17-2 with 12 points for dead last in the Central Division. They are eight points behind the next closest team in the division. Losing games was expected from the Coyotes, but it’s maybe a bit worse than anticipated.

They take on a Dallas team going into Monday night at 12-7-2 and 26 points. The Stars are on fire after a slow start, and are making up for lost time as of late.

They go into this one on a six-game winning streak, with wins in eight of their last nine attempts. After falling behind early, the Stars are right back into the mix in the Central. However, they’re only ahead of the Blackhawks and Coyotes, so there’s work to do.

Coyotes vs. Stars Prediction:

The Arizona Coyotes have to do their best to find a spark offensively. Unfortunately, it’s going to take some time before Clayton Keller gets help.

Let’s assume that the Coyotes stay in Arizona, and I know that Auston Matthews wouldn’t mind playing for his childhood team at home, but why would he want to go into this situation if the Coyotes don’t show improvement?

Matthews would immediately give this offense a spark. However, there’s a lot of improvements that have to be made. The Coyotes are 32nd in shots and goals per game.

They have accumulated an anemic 25.6 shots per game this season. The lack of scoring chances has resulted in less than 2 goals per game.

On the road, it’s much worse with 1.36 goals scored per game. Can we use the word better when talking about their defense? They are better than the offense, but it isn’t saying much.

Arizona Coyotes vs. Dallas Stars Betting Trends:

  • 14-37 overall in their previous 51 games versus a team with a winning record
  • 13-39 overall in their previous 52 games as an underdog on the road
  • 18-43 overall in their previous 71 games on the road
  • 0-4 overall in their previous four games after a loss at home by 3 or more goals
  • 1-6 overall in their previous seven games on two-day rest

  • 6-0 overall in their previous six games as a favorite at the American Airlines Center
  • 7-0 overall in their previous seven games as a favorite
  • 7-0 overall in their previous seven games at the American Airlines Center
  • 5-0 overall in their previous five games after allowing 2 or less goals
  • UNDER is 6-0 in their previous six games

The Coyotes are 30th in the NHL with 3.6 goals against per game. They have been slow on the penalty kill. Arizona is 29th with a success rate of 71.8% on the penalty kill.

They could attempt to turn into a defensive minded team with their lack of scoring options, but the Coyotes don’t have the personnel on the blueline for that either.

Braden Holtby is confirmed in the crease for the Stars. He’s been in good form with a 2.30 GAA and 0.927 save percentage.

The Stars are 12th in the league with 2.7 goals against per game. At home, that drops considerably to 2.09 goals allowed per game.

Dallas has been playing great hockey recently, and they should keep it up versus the struggling Coyotes at home. I like the Stars in a 4-1 or 4-2 win to get the week started tonight.
