The Colorado Avalanche make the trip south for a meeting with the Dallas Stars tonight. The Avalanche are perhaps feelings the impact of losing Paul Stastny after he bolted after seeing greener pastures in St. Louis. Colorado just didn’t have the money to afford to keep him around, so they were left without a focal point from their team that brought them immense success last season. They ultimately lost a hard series to the Minnesota Wild in 7 games in the playoffs and figured it to be a stepping stone to bigger things to come. After all head coach Patrick Roy was in his first year as a head coach, and the Avs were a young inexperienced team with little playoff experience. The Avalanche could only go up from there? Well, they have definitely taken a step back this season. If they kick it up a notch the rest of the season they may be able to squeak into the playoffs, but this team just doesn’t have the same mojo that they did last season. There is still time to make it up, but I don’t have too much confidence in them. We’ll see how they handle the Dallas Stars tonight, another team that is stuck in fluctuation, but may have a bright future ahead.
I was a on a two day break from the NHL, as I focused my energy on the Super Bowl. It was a profitable day on my prop bet picks here at The Sports Geek. I ended up going 4-1 with my prop picks and was only 2 away from a 4-0-1 day and 3 yards away from a 5-0 Super Bowl on the prop picks. Not only did I have a good Super Bowl, but my NHL picks have been red hot. I had a so-so first half of the season, but towards the end and after the break we have been winning picks at an impressive clip. I am 9-1 in my last 10 NHL picks and looking for more tonight. Let’s try and get it.
Colorado Avalanche @ Dallas Stars
If you are a daily reader of my NHL picks and just don’t fast forward to the pick, thank you. And if you are a daily reader of my NHL picks you’ve heard me talk about this Dallas Stars team on more than one occasion. If you haven’t been reading, or new to the blog, then I will go over the Stars once again. This is a team that features an exciting offense with exciting players, most notably Tyler Seguin who is having a great campaign, entering tonight scoring 28 goals and 28 assists. They also brought Jason Spezza over from the Ottawa Senators who adds to an impressive offense for the Stars. Dallas comes into tonight scoring an average of 3.16 goals per game, which puts them a spot behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for highest scoring team in the NHL. They have been in this spot pretty much since the start of the season.
That is one side of the story for the Stars, the other isn’t so great. They can score a plethora of goals, but when the defense can’t stop anybody what you get is a .500 team. Imagine that, your team is 2nd in the league in scoring, but their record is only 23-19-6-1. The Stars are allowing an average of 3.22 goals per game, which equates to 27th in the NHL. The Avalanche have had a good history against the Stars’ defense lately, scoring 4, 5, and 4 goals in their last three meetings. All three of those games went OVER the total. With a defense that is 19th in the NHL, the Avalanche aren’t exactly a model defense in the NHL this season. This bet has been a cash cow for me this season and I’ll look for more tonight. The OVER 5.5 in another Stars game for me tonight.
