The Colorado Avalanche hope to continue to exceed expectations, as they look to keep it together deep in the regular season. The Avalanche are fighting tooth and nail for the playoffs. They’re currently clinging on to the final wild card slot with 80 points. Just behind them are the Kings, Blues, and Flames, all within 2 points of the Avs. If the playoffs started today, the Avalanche would be in. However, they have just as good of a chance of making it as those three teams at the moment. Note that the Canucks and Kings are currently pending as I write this. The Kings are in control, so if they hang on, then say goodbye to that wild card spot. L.A. would leapfrog over the Avs to 81 points, but they do have an opportunity to respond tonight against the Minnesota Wild. It’s probably not going to be as easy as the Kings had it at home against the Canucks last night.
The Wild have more of a cushion than the Avalanche do, with 85 points and 5 points up on the final playoff seed. However, they are in no way out of the woods yet. With about a month of regular season action left, it doesn’t take that long to drop down by 5 points. The Wild have been absolutely brilliant at home with a record of 24-5-5. In other words, home ice advantage would work wonders for them if they were manage to get it. Conversely, things change when they hit the road, with a record of 15-18-0. For some teams they can make it work at home and on the road, but for a team like the Wild, it’s doubly important to be in their own arena. The Avalanche demolished the Wild in their last two meetings, with wins of 7-2 and 7-1. That’s just a lack of respect for the Avs. We’ll see if the learned anything tonight. Head below for our free Avalanche vs. Wild pick.
Colorado Avalanche vs. Minnesota Wild Pick
The Wild just didn’t show up their last two meetings against the Avalanche. They should have taken the message after the first blowout loss, but the Wild came back for more and lost even worse. However, they were winners of four in a row against the Avalanche before that debacle. There’s no doubting their offence lately, that’s for sure. They’ve scored at least 4 goals in three of their last four games. However, the Wild are coming off a lackluster 4-1 loss against the Oilers. In their last ten games, they scored 3.9 goals per game. Minnesota have been able to take care of the Avs at home, as they’ve won 10 out of 12, despite getting blasted 7-2 and 7-1 in Colorado.
Meanwhile, the Avalanche have averaged 3.6 goals per game in their last ten games. Nathan MacKinnon has been a major contributor for the Avalanche this season. Without Duchene, MacKinnon has blossomed into his own. He’s notched 32 goals and 49 assists with 81 points. Tyson Barrie has also improved tremendously for the Avalanche. Both the Avalanche and Wild have allowed around 3 goals per game in their last ten. In general, there is usually goals between these two when they meet. Note that there’s been an average of 7.2 goals per in their last five meetings. The OVER has gone 5-1 in the last six contests for the Avs and 5-2 towards the OVER for the Wild. We should see some more fireworks again tonight.
PICK: OVER 6 (-110)
