Blackhawks vs. Predators Pick – NHL December 10th

In what should be a pretty good game, Patrick Kane and the Chicago Blackhawks meet up with the Nashville Predators in Tennessee. Kane has performed for the Blackhawks despite the fact that he had some off the ice problems to address. With the legal issues in the rear-view mirror, Kane can now focus on hockey. In any case, the rape allegations didn’t seem to bother him too much, as he has been atop of the NHL for nearly the entire season. Kane is 1st in points with 43. He is tied for 1st in assists with Erik Karlsson. Additionally, Kane is 2nd in goals behind Jamie Benn. Needless to say, Patrick Kane is having himself a year. They lost some talent in the offseason, but he has been doing his best job to make up for it. Kane usually saves his best for last, meaning in the playoffs he comes to save the day. But we have seen him playing at an extremely high level throughout the first two months of the season.

The Predators don’t have the pomp and flash of the Blackhawks. There are no big names on the Preds that attract much attention, but as a unit, they always play well as a team. Most sports today, it almost seems like you need a superstar on your team to win anything. Out of any league though I think it is possible to find success without that all so much. Look at Alexander Ovechkin, one of the biggest talents and faces in the NHL, still doesn’t have a Stanley Cup. Now look at the LA Kings, who have certainly had talent on their team, nabbed a couple of championships. I’m not saying it is going to equal anything for the Predators, but they should stay positive about their chances. They improved on the offense last season and always had the defense. Although, they still have work to do as they come into tonight against the Hawks with a 14-9-4-1 record. I think it is far too early to say one way or the other if they’re going to be in the playoff category.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators NHL Pick

This one is a home and home, as the Blackhawks beat the Preds 4-1 in their last meeting in Chicago. Now they turn to Nashville for the second game of the series. The Blackhawks like home and the Predators like home. The Blackhawks are 10-3-1 playing at home, where the Preds are 8-3-1 in Nashville. The Predators have always had an upper-hand at home, the past few seasons they’ve been a solid team in that respect. There is a big enough sample size for me to come to the conclusion that the Predators are good at home, not just from this season.

With the transition to more of an offensive minded team last season, the defense hasn’t been as productive for the Predators. There had to be a trade-off somewhere there and yes that is what we have seen, as Nashville is 15th in the NHL in goals against. They are also 17th in goals scored. However, what has kept them afloat is their ability to play good hockey at home. They are coming off a three game road trip heading into tonight at home. I like for the Predators to return the favor at home against the Blackhawks and take a split in the back-to-back.
