Blackhawks vs. Predators Pick – NHL January 19th

It feels like there are always one or two teams in the NHL that always have an extended winning streak going. The Panthers had that until they have now lost three games in a row. Including a bad loss against the Edmonton Oilers at home last night. The Panthers got down quickly 3-0 and could never recover. They haven’t looked like the same team since blowing a 2-0 lead to the Canucks, it’s seemed to trickle down into last night. However, teams that go on big runs like that come down to earth. And when they come back to earth they usually hit it hard. The Panthers need to find a way out of that before the All-Star break, because if they continue to fall leading up to then, watch them crash and burn in the second half of the season. Despite the twelve game streak of wins, there is still a lot of hockey left to be played. It isn’t like the Panthers are some star studded lineup, they could easily fall out of favor here. I don’t even really know if too many people gave them credit, but give credit where credit is due, winning twelve games in a row is no easy task. But anyway, back to the task at hand for tonight.

The Chicago Blackhawks are one of those teams on a hot streak at the moment. Now the Blackhawks are a team that are to be taken seriously. A hot run for them can easily turn into something big. Patrick Kane has been playing hot all season long and he hasn’t let up. From the first game of the season leading up to tonight, Kane has put himself in an MVP type campaign. The Blackhawks are serious threats to win yet another Stanley Cup in this era. Another Stanley Cup would put them close to dynasty territory. Standing in their way tonight is the Nashville Predators. We go from talking about a hot team like the Hawks to a slow and cold team like the Predators. The Preds just recently snapped a five game losing streak. They have gone 3-7 in their last ten matchups. We look closer into their losing ways below.

Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators NHL Pick

The Predators have gotten back to their old ways of not being able to score the puck. During this recent down time, the Preds have scored 2.40 goals in their last ten games. However, while that isn’t impressive, the defense hasn’t been there. Defense used to be the life and blood of the Predators, it won them games. When Barry Trotz was the head coach, who is now coaching the Capitals, the defense was tough and hard to play against. They look softer these days. In their last ten games they have allowed 3.40 goals per game. That kind of thing was unheard of in the Trotz era.

The Blackhawks can play physical and fast. Offensively the defense will be tested tonight for the Predators. The Blackhawks have been everything the Predators haven’t been. Note that the Hawks have scored 3.60 goals per game in their last ten games. The defense has been outstanding as well, posting 1.6t0 goals against. The Blackhawks will be searching for the same streak the Panthers had, twelve in a row. The Predators are overrated this season, which is quite funny for a team I felt was underrated for so long. In any case, I see the Blackhawks keeping their winning ways going against the Preds.
