Blue Jackets vs. Flyers NHL Pick – March 15th

The Columbus Blue Jackets head out east to Philadelphia where the Jackets and Flyers do battle in an important contest for both teams. With the Blue Jackets and Flyers jockeying for position in the Eastern Conference, they’re in the playoffs if they started today. The Flyers are sitting nicely, 6 points up on the last team out, the Florida Panthers. The Panthers looked dead in the water earlier this season, but they’ve fought back to give themselves an opportunity to reach the playoffs.

Bob Boughner has done a fine job turning the season around as a rookie head coach. If the Blue Jackets and Flyers stay the course, they won’t have to worry about the Panthers, tough. It takes more than an average record to reach the playoffs in the NHL. The Flyers enter with a record of 34-25-4. At one point this season, they were the hottest team in the NHL. However, variance has a funny way of always trumping a good run.

The Flyers have lost six of their last seven games, so there hasn’t been much of a good run to discuss. You never want to hit a bad string of luck in March, but if they finish strong this was all be a moot point. The Flyers last win came against the Jets at home on the 10th. They’ve had a couple nights off before their meeting with the Blue Jackets tonight, so perhaps the extra day off helps tonight. The Blue Jackets have had a couple nights off as well, but their circumstance is a little different, with wins in five straight games. Head below for our free Blue Jackets vs. Flyers pick.

Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Philadelphia Flyers Pick

The Blue Jackets have sort of been consistently decent this season. Whereas the Flyers have gone on runs as well as dry spells. If you’re a bottom seed, it’d probably be better to be a hot and cold team. There is always the chance a team like that catches fire at the right moment. Maybe it’s the Flyers, but they have a mountain to climb against some good teams in the conference. We certainly haven’t seen the best out of them lately, though. Just 2.3 goals per game and 3 goals allowed per in their last ten outings. Along with that, the Flyers are winners of only four games in their last ten. They’ve scored 2 goals in each of their last four games.

Conversely, on the other side, the Blue Jackets have been doing the complete opposite. Winners of five in a row, the Jackets have averaged 4.2 goals per game during that stretch. There isn’t any time for them to let up, though. This game is a case of a hot team against a cold team. Logic would say the Blue Jackets will win easily. However, in my opinion, it has the makings of a bounce back performance for the Flyers and let down for the Jackets. After playing brilliantly at home for four games, they head on the road where they haven’t been at their best, a record of just 14-17-0. The Blue Jackets slow down a bit in Philadelphia tonight, leaving a door open for the Flyers to build some confidence at home.
