The Blackhawks fought for their playoff lives in overtime a couple of nights ago and were rewarded with an extra game back in Chicago. The Blackhawks will try and find another win, sending this series back to St. Louis for a seventh and final matchup. The Hawks have come back from being behind before and even hoisted the Stanley Cup from their adversity. Here we are again, with another opportunity for the Blackhawks to show off more of that never say quit attitude. The way I see it, the series was saved for the Hawks with .4 seconds left in the 2nd period. It was a 2-1 game, before the Blackhawks pulled ahead to make it 3-1 with less than a second on the clock. Patrick Kane saved the Blackhawks in overtime in game 5, is he going to be their savior again tonight?
Kane has the ability to get hot really quickly. There wouldn’t be too many shocked faces if the Blackhawks come back to win this series, and Kane puts the team on his back all of the way to the finals. I don’t feel like the Blackhawks are as good as the same team who won a Stanley Cup last season, but the meat and potatoes of the roster are still intact. While Corey Crawford allowed in 3 goals, he played a big role in getting this series back to Chicago. Note that Crawford fended off 43 shots, including 12 in the overtime to help the Blackhawks out. Chicago has yet to win a game in this series at home. It’s a bit uncharacteristic for the Blackhawks, who were so good at home in the regular season, and at home previously in the playoffs.
All the Hawks need to do is go 1-2 at home, and get another win in St. Louis and all will be well regardless. Hockey fans would love to see a seventh game. The NHL would love to see it. And of course, the Blackhawks want to get this one back in St. Louis. I can’t wait for this game to get underway, I think it’s going to be another thriller. Read on as I provide additional thoughts and my pick for this pivotal game at the United Center in Chicago.
St. Louis Blues vs. Chicago Blackhawks NHL Playoffs Pick
I said in my write-up for game 5 that Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane have to find a way to take this series over. Between the both of them they had 3 points on the night, including the game winner in overtime. The same goes for tonight, a big effort will be needed from the two leaders of this hockey club. Also another marquee player, Marian Hossa, did his best to help the cause, notching a shorthanded goal in the 2nd period to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Now that the Blackhawks are back at home, the pressure is back on the Blues to win their third in a row at the United Center.
For the lack of a better term, the Blues blew their load on that last game in St. Louis. I had the Blues winning it, and from what I saw they were playing like the better team for the greater part of game 5. The Blues are aware of how dangerous the Blackhawks can be even though they are behind in a series. Chicago has won eight straight game 6’s. I had the Blues in the last game of the series, but I said if the Blackhawks pull it off, this series is going to be going to seven games. I’m not going to stray away from my initial thoughts. This series is going the distance.
