Blues vs. Ducks Pick – NHL March 15th

The streaking St. Louis Blues put their five-game winning streak on the line against the Ducks in Anaheim on Wednesday night. The Blues have suddenly wakened up, playing some of the best hockey of the year lately. Their latest bright spot was a win over the Kings the other night.

Jake Allen has been playing much better hockey in net, which has resulted in some more favorable results for the Blues. This will be their second game on the west coast in California in a row. One of those wins on the five-game winning streak includes a victory against the Ducks at home, 4-3 on the 10th. The Ducks will look to get it back tonight at home.

The Blues have been hanging on to that final seed in the Western Conference, but it’s been in large part because the competition in this conference isn’t as stingy as in the Eastern Conference. They currently have a gap of 5 points between them and the Kings, who are the last team out at the moment.

So, the win over them was a big win for the Blues. The Ducks, 3rd in the Pacific, and 82 points are going to be in barring a late season choke job, which would signal the end of Randy Carlyle, one must imagine.

It’s been a series of ups and downs for the Ducks this season. Last season it was a tale of two halves, as they looked lost in the first-half, and then turned it on following the All-Star break. In 2016-17, it’s been a little bit of everything for them thus far.

The Ducks enter with a record of 36-23-10 so they’ve been good more often than not, they’ve just been doing it in a very quiet way. Note, though, this was a team who were the class of the regular season for five or so years consecutively, so it’s easy to look past this Ducks team. Wise move? We shall see soon. St. Louis Blues vs. Anaheim Ducks Pick

The Blues are trying to make up for lost time here in the remaining months of the regular season. Such a porous start which saw the firing of Ken Hitchcock, has been looking up of late. A major contender? No, I don’t see that just yet. They’ve allowed an average of just 2.20 goals per game in their last ten games, but scored only 2.20 goals per game for essentially a wash. I want more of a sample size than just the last five games from this team.

The Blues are 14th in scoring, and 16th on defence for a very average season in St. Louis. Allen has struggled to replace Brian Elliott in net, but he’s had his moments as a capable netminder. The Blues are 16-16-1 on the road this season, compared to 22-8-2 for the Ducks at home. I could see St. Louis getting just a little too comfortable and relaxing a bit after their win over the Kings. The Los Angeles setting shouldn’t help them focus any, either. I like the Ducks to snap the Blues streak of wins and take advantage of a team playing lax hockey tonight at the Duck Pond. We like the Ducks for our Wednesday night NHL pick.

PICK: DUCKS (-145) *

*Previously had OVER 5.5 listed as the pick, but from the write up you would have been able to tell that was a mental mistake.  Ducks -145 is the play tonight.
