The Vegas Golden Knights are in. For the first time in franchise history in the first ever year of their existence, the Golden Knights are heading to the playoffs. It’s been a storybook year for the Knights, which started with a plan years ago. There were several pundits saying that hockey would not survive in Las Vegas. And while we can’t say how fan support would have been if they were a bad product, the Knights have exceeded those expectations as well.
Along with fans in Las Vegas, people from out of town supporting their team has kept the arena packed every night. From a monetary standpoint, the Golden Knights have been succeeding in that department, too. The Knights have solidified their stake in the playoffs, but there is another team in Vegas tonight who are still looking. The St. Louis Blues come into town for an important meeting with the Knights. They’re on the fence right now and need all of the points they can accumulate.
If the playoffs started today the Blues would be in with a wild card. However, there is no room for any errors with such little time left in the regular season. The Blues are tied at 91 points with the Ducks. Behind the Blues and Ducks are the Avalanche with 90 points. The Blues have the pleasure of having one more game on their schedule than the Ducks and Avalanche. They are already a point up on the Avs, so they have an upper-hand on the situation. All three teams are in action tonight. There will be some scoreboard watching. Head below for our free Blues vs. Golden Knights pick to get the holiday weekend underway.
St. Louis Blues vs. Vegas Golden Knights Pick
The Blues and Golden Knights split their first two meetings, with close finals of 3-2 in overtime for Vegas, and then the Blues edged them out 2-1 in St. Louis. At this point, it’s about maintaining a high seed and home ice advantage. Their home ice is extremely valuable in Las Vegas. Most teams have been treating the trip there as a time to slack off and party. I think the thought process for visiting teams was, okay, we’re playing an expansion team and we’re in Las Vegas, may as well live it up and not take the Knights seriously. That’s been the downfall of many teams, but there will be a time when they are taken seriously, and it may be happening at the moment. With the playoffs on the line for the Blues, they must take the Knights seriously.
We’ve seen Vegas regress a bit at home lately, they’ve been beatable, so teams are beginning to catch on. They have won three of their last six games at home. Conversely, the Blues have been hot with six wins in a row. Management may have gotten rid of Stastny at the deadline, but current players are turning it on at the right time. In their last ten games, they’ve scored 3.2 goals per game, while allowing 2.2 per game. The Knights have been playing okay hockey, with five wins in their last ten. I think they have to win a round in the playoffs or you’ll hear a lot of people saying the regular season was a fluke. They may just be getting bored waiting for the playoffs to get here. The hungrier team tonight should be the Blues. It’s difficult to ignore this price on one of the hottest teams in the league. Vegas haven’t been the same team at home of late. The Blues are worth a look tonight in Sin City.
