The Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars have a close-out game in Texas tonight. The Flames can advance to the next round with a 4-2 series win. They are coming off a 3-1 win at the Saddledome on Wednesday in Game 5.
Jacob Markstrom stood tall between the pipes to make 20 saves on 21 shots. Credit the Flames’ defense for an active evening at home in Alberta.
The Flames played like the team that wanted it more in that game. It was a well-deserved win for the Flames, as they look to close out the Stars in six games on the road in Dallas.

Calgary certainly deserves this opportunity to go to the next round after their performance in Game 5. The pre-series odds suggested that the Flames should probably win in six games, so there hasn’t been any surprises.
The Stars are a good team that weren’t going to get swept or even lose in five games. A six or even seven-game series was expected between the Flames and Stars.
The Flames won the Pacific Division with a record of 50-21-11 and 111 points. They had a seven-point advantage on the Edmonton Oilers at the end of the regular season.
Markstrom played a big role in getting the Flames to where they are, and he continues to pay dividends in the playoffs for this organization. He will look to stay hot in Texas to bounce the Stars out of the postseason.

Flames vs. Stars Game 6 Prediction:
The Flames needed a big season out of Jacob Markstrom to have as much success as they had this season. That was an important prerequisite for them to compete for the Pacific Division. Markstrom did it, and the Flames finished first in the Pacific.
Markstrom posted a 2.22 GAA and 0.922 save percentage this season. He was one of the more reliable goaltenders in the NHL in 2021-22.
His strong presence in the crease has carried over to the playoffs as well. Markstrom has a 1.21 GAA, and 0.952 save percentage in five games.
Having a hot goaltender this time of year is incredibly helpful. It doesn’t take an elite goaltender to win the Stanley Cup, but it does take a consistent and confident goalie.
He worked with nice support from the offense as well. The Flames have scored 3.46 goals per game for sixth in the league.
The Flames put a lot of pressure on the opposing defense. They have accumulated 35.5 shots per game for a top-3 unit.
Calgary Flames vs. Dallas Stars Game 6 Betting Trends:
Flames
- 18-7 overall in their previous 25 games as a favorite on the road
- 35-16 overall in their previous 51 games as a betting favorite
- The favorite is 8-3 in their previous 11 games versus the Stars
- 5-2 overall in their previous seven games versus the Stars
- UNDER is 6-1 in their previous seven games
Stars
- 1-4 overall in their previous five games versus a team with a winning percentage better than 60%
- 3-7 overall in their previous ten games as an underdog
- 4-0 overall in their previous four games on a Friday
- 4-1 in their previous five games off a one-day break
- The underdog is 3-8 in their previous 11 games versus the Flames
Jake Oettinger is a solid option for the Stars as well. Oettinger has been solid with a 2.53 GAA, and a 0.914 save percentage. He has a 1.63 GAA, and 0.956 save percentage in this series.
However, Oettinger does not have the luxury of a better offense like Markstrom does on the Flames. Dallas is 21st in the NHL with 2.77 goals scored per game with 2.92 goals against in 2021-22.
That said, the Flames are in a good spot with Markstrom in a close-out game. He’s a top-notch asset to have on the ice in a big game like this that will probably be defensive again.

Look at the Flames to win and send the Stars packing in six games. The Stars have had a valiant effort in this series, but it won’t be enough to go to the next round in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
