Calgary Flames vs. Los Angeles Kings Pick – NHL April 4, 2022

The Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings have a date at Arena tonight. Calgary is hoping that a change of scenery will do some good after a 6-4 loss to the St. Louis Blues at home on Saturday night.

They are on a three-game skid going into Los Angeles, which includes a 3-2 loss to the Kings on Thursday. Three straight losses are rare for the Flames, and they’re coming off three straight at home.

As I said, a chance of scenery might be good for the Flames. Getting away from the Saddledome may put the Flames back in the right direction. By all accounts, the Flames have had a very good season despite recent struggles.

They are going into tonight at 40-19-9 and 89 points. The Flames lead the Pacific Division with a three-game advantage over the Kings. They are two unlikely teams at the top of the division, but this was expected to be a wide-open affair.

The Kings went 21-28-7 while the Flames finished with a record of 26-27-3 in the shortened campaign last season. LA has won back-to-back outings going into this one.

After beating the Flames, the Kings followed up with another 3-2 win, this time over the Winnipeg Jets in Canada. The Kings are back home for the first time since a 6-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken on March 28.

Flames vs. Kings Prediction:

The Flames are a better team than we’ve seen on the ice recently. Every good team goes through a funk, though. I wouldn’t worry too much about the Flames, but whether they can follow through in the playoffs is a question mark.
Calgary has one of the most dangerous offenses in the NHL. They’ve scored 3.47 goals per game for the seventh-best production. The Flames are second in the league in shots, with 35.9 a game going into Arena.

Going on the road hasn’t hurt the Flames at all. In fact, they have more shots on net as a visiting team, with 36.53 shots per game on the road. In their last ten attempts, the Flames have recorded 37.20 shots a game.

The goals have followed with 3.4 goals per game. So, despite, dropping three in a row, the Flames are in fine form. They aren’t all offense as well. Calgary is the second-best in the NHL with 2.5 goals against per game.

Calgary Flames vs. LA Kings Betting Trends:

  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games as a favorite on the road
  • 7-3 overall in their previous ten games versus the Pacific Division
  • 5-1 overall in their previous six games after allowing 5 or more goals
  • 5-2 overall in their previous seven games on the road
  • 14-6 overall in their previous 20 games versus the Western Conference
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games after a win
  • 1-5 overall in their previous six games after allowing 2 or fewer goals
  • 3-11 overall in their previous 14 games on a Monday at home
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games on a Monday
  • 1-4 overall in their previous five games as an underdog at home

Jacob Markstrom had helped the Flames to the second-best defense in the NHL. Markstrom has posted a 2.19 GAA and 0.924 save percentage going into Arena. He has an advantage over Jonathan Quick, who has notched a 2.66 GAA and 0.909 save percentage.

The Kings’ offense has been just alright, with an average of 2.8 goals per game. They will have to rely on their defense tonight.

I’m not all confident in them doing it tonight, though. The Flames are going to come out fast and hard after three straight losses.

In the last trip to Los Angeles to play the Kings, the Flames left with a 3-2 win on December 2. Another 3-2 or 4-2 win for the Flames looks accurate on Monday night.
