Canucks Predators Pick – NHL December 3rd

We have very close last night to hitting a big underdog as the New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens engaged in a tight battle, however the Habs were able to notch a go-ahead goal halfway through the third period and went on to beat the Devils by a count of 3-2. We looked pretty good after the first when the Devils had a 1-0 lead and held Montreal to just 5 shots on goal, and despite just 4 shots in the 2nd period, the Habs scored twice and took a lead into the 3rd frame. The Habs mustered just 17 shots on goal total last night, but were fortunate to come away with a victory. We now move on to tonight’s action where we have 9 games on the NHL schedule.

Ottawa Senators @ Florida Panthers

My Pick – SENATORS (-115) @ $520 free on 1st deposit

The Ottawa Senators will hit the road for a mini 2-game Florida road trip tonight that begins with a battle against the Florida Panthers. The Senators were dropped by the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday as they welcomed back their former Captain Daniel Alfredsson to town and Alfredsson had a goal and an assist in a 4-2 Wings victory. The Panthers have lost 2 in a row and four of their last five games overall and have surrendered four or more goals in four of those five games. Keeping the puck out of the back of their net has been about as difficult for the Panthers as it has been to find the back of the opponents net. Florida ranks 28th in the NHL in goals for per game with just 2.11 on the season, and they give up 3.22 goals per game themselves, but as mentioned earlier, their average goals against over their last 5 games is all the way up to 3.8. Not helping the Panthers this season is their special teams. With a powerplay at just 10.6% on the season and a penalty kill that currently stands at 74.4%, the Panthers would be wise to stay away from the special teams game tonight. Over their last 10 games head-to-head, the Senators average 3.3 goals per game on offense compared to Florida’s 1.9 and as expected, the Sens have come out victorious in 8 of those 10 matchups. Furthermore, the Senators are 12-2 in their last 14 games against the Panthers, and 18-5 in their last 23 games on the road against the Panthers. Take the Senators to bounce back with a victory tonight against a lowly Florida Panthers squad.

Vancouver Canucks @ Nashville Predators

My Pick – OVER 5 (-110) $520 free on 1st deposit

The Vancouver Canucks will wrap up a four-game road trip tonight as they look to make it a winning one against a Nashville Predators team who has opened a homestand with back-to-back losses. After losing 5-2 on Sunday to former Head Coach Alain Vigneault and the New York Rangers, the Canucks were able to bounce back on Monday night by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 thanks to 2 goals by Ryan Kesler. The Preds have dropped 2 straight after winning 2 straight and will need some points tonight if they have any aspirations of making up ground in what is an extremely difficult Western Conference. A positive sign for the Canucks lately has been the resurgence of their once feared powerplay. Vancouver has scored a powerplay goal in each of their last 5 games and even better is the fact that their powerplay clicks at at 27.3% clip in their last 10 meetings with these Nashville Predators. Vancouver averages 3.7 goals per game over their last 10 against Nashville, while the Preds manage 2.6 goals per game on offense against Vancouver in that same 10 game stretch. These two teams have also combined for a total of 18 goals over their last 2 head-to-head meetings, 12 of those scored by the Canucks. With Pekka Rinne still on the shelf, I believe it is possible Vancouver can find the back of the net on several occasions tonight. The OVER is 4-2 in Vancouver’s last 6 games on the road and 5-2 in their last 7 trips to Nashville. Take the OVER 5 tonight at a decent price from Bridgestone Arena in Music City.
