Capitals vs. Penguins NHL Pick – April 1st

The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins tend to draw attention and a crowd whenever they meet. The rivalry between Ovechkin and Crosby has been going on for several years now and it continues to get people to tune-in. This particular meeting is one of the more important they’ve had in the regular season. The division is on the line over the final week of the regular season. As it stands at the moment, the Capitals have a 3 point lead over the Penguins with 99 points. They also play an extra game this week, so the Caps are firmly in the driver seat.

The door is open, but it isn’t the biggest crack for the Penguins to navigate through. Are the Penguins that concerned, though? After all, the Capitals have been a regular season team, not a playoff team, which is where it matters. The Penguins have firmly cemented their dominance over the Capitals, regardless of what transpires in the regular season. Overall, the Penguins haven’t looked like they have a killer instinct in 2018, though. If there is any year the Capitals have a chance at going further than the Pens, this would be it. However, this wouldn’t be the first year that the Caps looked like they were going to.

Ovechkin has once again piled on the goals. He’s atop the league with 45 goals. That’s great and all, Ovechkin has never been one who doesn’t earn personal accolades. From a team perspective, he hasn’t had the most to get excited about. Notably, no Stanley Cup and no Gold Medal. Crosby on the other hand has personal and team achievements. It’s going to be a bitter retirement for Ovie one day if he isn’t able to win a Cup. It won’t be long before we find out if they’re failures again. Head below for our free Capitals vs. Penguins pick.

Washington Capitals vs. Pittsburgh Penguins Pick

For the Capitals to go far in the playoffs, they’re going to need Braden Holtby to play well. They don’t necessarily need him to steal the show, but he must play better than what he’s done in the regular season. In one of his worst seasons in the NHL, Holtby holds a 3.07 GAA and 0.907 save percentage. At this point, he’s just hoping to keep his save percentage above 0.90. Holtby is only 28 years old, so I don’t believe it’s a matter of him getting old. It was last season he posted a 2.07 GAA and 0.925 save percentage. There’s no denying what Ovechkin and this offence can do, though.

Matt Murray played in his first-year as the lone number 1 in Pittsburgh. It could be better, as Marc-Andre Fleury leads the Golden Knights to a historic year. Murray holds a 2.89 GAA and 0.907 save percentage. The Penguins just blasted the Canadiens last night, 5-2, as they got another good day out of their offence. It was their third win in their last four games. Defence has been the issue in Pittsburgh. They are allowing over 3 goals per game overall, and in their last ten games, have surrendered 3.3 per game. The Capitals have notched 3.8 goals per game in their last ten showings. This game could go either way, it should be a good one. I tend to think we should see some offensive production tonight, so a look at the OVER doesn’t look bad.

PICK: OVER 6 (-110)
