Back to the ice for us tonight, as we look for some more winning NHL picks on Thursday night. The regular season is flying right by, with not much time left until the playoffs are upon us. I cant wait. The field is going to be wide open with the Stanley Cup right up for grabs for any team to take. Don’t like the predictability of the NBA? Be sure to take some time to watch the NHL for some exciting action. The usual suspects will be the favorites, but we’ve teams like the LA Kings make the most out of a low seed, so it’s anybody’s to win.
We head to San Jose tonight, where I believe the game of the day is taking place. The Washington Capitals are out on the west coast, doing battle with the Sharks on Thursday night. This is their first game out here, after a three-game home stand against the Devils, Flyers, and Stars, where they went 2-1, the lone loss against the Stars. They have been nearly flawless this season, entering with a record of 44-14-2. The Caps are coming off a 4-2 loss to the Stars, though.
It was one of those rare nights where the Capitals were off their game. It was their first loss at home since December. Even the best don’t perform the best every day, and we saw it with the Caps against the Stars. No it’s not the end of the world for this team, but it could hurt them in the end as they vie for the number 1 seed in the playoffs. Let’s get right to the pick, as these two heavyweights square off at the Shark Tank in San Jose.
Washington Capitals vs. San Jose Sharks Pick
The Capitals are facing a Sharks team this evening who made it further than them last season. Although, the Sharks lost to team who beat the Capitals, so it was a bit of a wash in that respect. San Jose are being overlooked again this season, I would say, despite owning a record of 39-19-6 and just appearing in the Stanley Cup Finals.
They are winners of four in their last five games and are playing the same kind of balanced hockey that got them far a year ago. Note that they have scored 2.74 goals per game and allowed 2.32 goals. They don’t necessarily excel in either area, but are good at both of them which accounts for more than specializing on defence or offence.
The Capitals, though, have been spectacular on both ends, which is why you find them at the top of the league. They are averaging 3.25 goals per game, 3rd in the NHL, and allowing 2.06 goals per game, 1st. Braden Holtby was pulled last game after playing poor in the early goings against the Stars. I doubt that he slips-up and has such bad outings twice in a row. You won’t find the Caps as short favorites often, but they are tonight in San Jose. I like them to bounce back in a nice way against the Sharks. Take the Caps for your Sharks vs. Capitals pick Thursday night.
