Coyotes vs. Capitals NHL Pick – November 11th

Tough night for the Arizona Coyotes in Pittsburgh last night. The Penguins did a number on the Coyotes, as they took some frustration out in a 4-0 game. The offence was silent for the Yotes against the Penguins, with the better team winning on Saturday night. There is no time for rest, as they must make an immediate turnaround and go to Washington for a meeting with the Capitals.

That’s not the easiest couple of days for any team in the NHL. They go from chasing Sidney Crosby around to Alexander Ovechkin on Sunday evening. It isn’t how any team wants to spend their weekend, especially on the other side of the country on a road trip. The Coyotes will be out east until Wednesday, with a stop in Detroit before heading back to the desert.

Despite getting blown out by the Penguins last night, the Coyotes have been off to a solid start. It’s certainly been better than anticipated, with a record of 7-6-1. Along with them, the Canucks, and Canadiens, there have been some teams playing above expectations. But let’s keep things realistic and wait to see where they are in January. With the loss yesterday, the Coyotes have lost two games in a row. This was after a five-game winning streak, so they’ll look to start a new streak today. We’ll see if that winning streak was just an outlier or a sign of something to come in Arizona. Head below for our free Coyotes vs. Capitals pick below.

Arizona Coyotes vs. Washington Capitals Pick

The Capitals have been a tough team to put your finger on this season. They’ve been treading water thus far in their quest to repeat as Stanley Cup Champions. Through the first month of the season, they do not look like they are in Stanley Cup shape. It’s early, though, and if they all of the sudden hit a wild run of like 9 or 10 wins in a row, it’s not going to surprise many people. The Caps are coming off a 2-1 loss to the Blue Jackets at home.

They’ve been losing some high-scoring games this season, but the offence didn’t show up to help out Holtby. The good sign of that game is that Holtby looked sharp again. The offence will be there for the Caps, but they’ve been a little worried about the play of Holtby. He has made two strong starts in a row, though, with 3 goals allowed in his last two outings. Washington are scoring an average 3.47 goals per game to put them in elite company near the top of the NHL. That puts them 5th in the NHL as of November 10th.

After Darcy Kuemper got the start against the Pens yesterday, expect Antti Raanta to be in the crease on Sunday for the Yotes. Raanta has been rock solid with a 2.10 GAA and 0.929 save percentage. He’s a guy that the Rangers wish they could have kept in NYC.

Raanta has been average against the Capitals with a 2.59 GAA and 0.906 save percentage. Raanta may be okay on Sunday, but I don’t know for the rest of his team. They just got beaten down by the Penguins, and now they are expected to go and compete with a Caps team coming off a loss Friday. The Capitals have been home since November 3rd, and their legs should be fresh. Also, the Coyotes have gone 1-6 in Washington in their previous seven trips here. I like at least a 3-1 or 4-2 win for the Capitals on Sunday.
