Are the Anaheim Ducks really as bad as their early season play indicated? By what they’ve been doing no. No one should have hit the panic button on the Ducks. For as good as the Ducks have been in the regular season, I understand the concern among Ducks’ fans. In the same token, a season isn’t made up of performances in October. October was absolutely brutal for the Ducks, the only win they had was against the Wild on October 18th. Lately things have been looking a lot better for the Ducks. They are on a roll with four straight victories. It started with a 4-2 win against the Predators and their last came against the San Jose Sharks. Beating a good team like the Preds was certainly a good way to get the confidence back. The offense has been bad, but they have picked up a bit of late. I don’t think there are any concerns on the defensive side, they are quite good. The offense will need to get something going for them to be good. They have been a dominant team at home for years now. Beating the Ducks at home is a difficult task. Their home record has been one of the bright spots, with a 4-2 record in Anaheim.
The Ducks will look to improve to 5-2-1 at home and 6-7-1 for the year with a win against the Arizona Coyotes. The Coyotes don’t even know where they are playing year-to-year. Every offseason it’s the same talk, where will the Coyotes be playing in the near future? This has been going on for ten years now and the Coyotes are still in Arizona. The NHL wants a team in Vegas, great, then move the Yotes up to Vegas. We don’t need two teams playing in the desert. It wouldn’t make much sense to me, so moving them to Las Vegas would be an ideal scenario. I’m not confident in the long term prospects of a NHL team thriving in Vegas, but if that’s what the NHL wants, then move the Coyotes there. The on ice product this season has been mediocre. I think that has been their theme since the inception of the team in 1996. The Coyotes enter with a 6-6-1 record tonight. This is the only game on the NHL card, so let’s make the most of it.
Arizona Coyotes vs. Anaheim Ducks Pick
The Ducks have been trying to wake their offense up. The truth of the matter is they’re going to need to rely on the defense of they’re going to do something this season. In the least, they have to be the anchor of their success. The Ducks have averaged only 1.5 goals this season, but basic statistics tells us that 1.5 is going to increase to the mean, or average. The offense has been moving in that direction lately. In their last four games they have averaged 3 goals per game, while still maintaining a strong defense. In that time the Ducks allowed only 1.5 goals a game.
This season the Ducks have posted a terrific goals against per game of 2.28. Frederik Anderson, who looks to be getting the start tonight has been outstanding and one of the most underrated goaltenders in the NHL at the moment. Anderson has .935 save percentage and 2.03 GAA. As I stated, the Ducks are great at home and have been for over three seasons now. I think the Ducks continue on a roll and extend their four game winning streak. In my opinion there is a lot of value to be had in the Ducks winning by more than a goal as we are getting plus money at +158 here.
PICK: DUCKS -1.5 (+158)
