Arizona Coyotes vs Ottawa Senators NHL Pick – March 14

The NHL is set up with a smaller slate of action on March 14. Only one game will be up on the board on Monday night. This game will be between the Arizona Coyotes and the Ottawa Senators. These two teams have struggled throughout this season, but will look for a big win in this one. This game will drop the puck at around 7:30 PM Eastern time on NHL Network.

Arizona has earned a record of 18-36-4 throughout this season, which has them sitting in last place of the Central division. The Coyotes are coming off a loss in their last game, which ended a four game winning streak. Arizona has not found much momentum this season, but will look to finish strong. The Coyotes will look for a big win on the road in this one.

The Senators have put up a record of 21-32-5 so far this season, which has them in sixth place of the Atlantic division. Ottawa is coming off a loss in their last game and have lost six of their last eight. The Senators are in a similar position where they will look to play spoiler late. I expect Ottawa to come out quickly at home in this one.

These two teams are going to miss out on the postseason this year, but will look to finish the season strong. The Coyotes have been pretty strong as of late, winning four in a row before their last loss. Ottawa has been struggling a bit more. If either team can come out quickly in this one, it could be enough for the win.

Betting Trends

Arizona Coyotes

  • 4-1 in March
  • 7-18 after a non-Conference game
  • 7-19 in non-Conference games
  • 1-6 after three straight road games
  • 10-10 against team with a losing record

Ottawa Senators

  • 2-5 in March
  • 8-16 after a non-Conference game
  • 9-16 in non-Conference games
  • 7-14 after allowing four goals or more
  • 9-14 after a loss by two or more goals
  • 8-12 against team with a losing record

These two teams met up once this season on March 5 in Arizona. Parker Kelly scored twice, while Thomas Chabot had three assists. It was not enough for the Senators though. Nick Schmaltz had two goals and five assists, while Clayton Keller had two goals and two assists. Shayne Gostisbehere had a goal and three assists as the Coyotes earned an 8-5 win at home.

Special Teams

The Coyotes have struggled on both sides of special teams this season. Arizona has scored on 18 of their 147 power play chances, which is a 12.2 percent power play. The Coyotes have killed off 132 of their opponents 180 power play attempts, which is a 73.3 percent kill rate. Arizona is 32nd on the power play and 30th on the kill this season.

Ottawa has been solid on special teams throughout the season. The Senators have capitalized on 31 of their 172 power play opportunities, which is an 18 percent success rate. Ottawa has given up 36 power play goals on 181 penalties against ,which is an 80.1 percent penalty kill. The Senators are 24th on the man advantage and 15th on the penalty kill.

The Senators have the edge on special teams entering this matchup. Ottawa has had the better power play and penalty kill and will look to use it to their advantage in this one. Arizona will look for their own special teams to step up early in this one though. If either team can get a power play goal, it could be enough for the win.

Goaltending Comparison

Scott Wedgewood will likely get the start in the crease for Arizona in this one. Wedgewood has played in 24 games this season, going 9-11-2 in those matchups. He has posted a .909 save percentage and a GAA of 3.17. Wedgewood finished with 34 saves on 38 shots in his last start against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which was enough for the win.

I expect Anton Forsberg to get the nod between the pipes for the Senators on Monday night. Forsberg has earned a record of 13-11-2 throughout his 27 starts on the season. He has put up a save percentage of .916 and a 2.83 GAA in those outings. Forsberg’s last start was against the Chicago Blackhawks. He stopped 22 of 28 shots in the loss.

These two goalies have been solid throughout this season and will look for a big win in this one. Wedgewood has won three of his last four starts and will look to keep it going in this one. Forsberg has lost three of his last five. If either goalie can come out quickly in this one, it could be enough to lead their team to the win.

Pick Overview

These two teams are struggling a bit on the season, but will look for a big win in this one. The Coyotes have been the better team as of late and will look to sweep Ottawa in the season series. The Senators will look to bounce back after giving up eight goals to Arizona earlier this season. If Ottawa can grab an early lead, I like their chances to earn the win.

BetOnline has the Senators listed as a -150 against the money line in this one. This implies that Ottawa will win this game around 60 percent of the time. I think that this line is accurate with the Senators at home. The Coyotes have been hot as of late, but I think they will fall back down to earth. As slight favorites, I like the value on the Senators.
