Dallas Stars vs. Carolina Hurricanes NHL Pick – March 24

A hugely important cross-conference showdown will unfold Thursday evening from Raleigh, North Carolina as the Hurricanes look to extend their lead in the Eastern Conference. Standing in their way however will be the pesky Dallas Stars, a veteran-laden squad keen to vault back into playoff contention. This encounter has all the makings of a can’t-miss NHL game for Thursday’s loaded slate!

The Canes enter fresh off a big victory over Tampa Bay on Tuesday evening. Carolina continues to play excellent team defense, and are getting surprisingly hot goaltending from 2022 All-Star Freddie Andersen. The big Dane has shaken off sub-par seasons in Toronto, and delivered this season in Carolina. Thursday’s clash should also see the debut of new Hurricane, Max Domi. Domi was acquired at the trade deadline from Columbus, and should offer up some additional scoring depth for the Canes.

Meanwhile Dallas enters a desperate group, fighting for every point to get into a coveted playoff position. It wasn’t supposed to be this difficult for Dallas in 2022, but some early-season injuries really pushed them back. Jake Oettinger has given them excellent goaltending of late, while their top-line of Roope Hintz, Jason Robertson, and Joe Pavelski continue to drive the offense. Beyond that however, the depth scoring has fallen off significantly. It’s expected that the Stars will again take to the ice without their star defender in Miro Heiskanen, as the talented Finn recovers from mononucleosis.

With so much on the line for both squads, it should make for an exciting clash on the ice. For added insight, and all of the most up-to-date betting news, trends, and analysis – continue reading on beneath the posted odds. It’s a crucial game for playoff positioning, and this is definitely one of the top match-ups on a loaded NHL slate Thursday night. Enjoy the Canes and Stars, folks!

Dallas Stars vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction:

While the Canes enter near the top of the league’s standings, they’re not doing it with an elite-level offense. In fact, it has stagnated quite a bit over the past month. Instead, Carolina has instilled a stingy team defensive structure, have a talented defense corps, and are getting stellar goaltending from Frederik Andersen. This was evident once again on Tuesday night, when the Canes impressively limited Tampa Bay to just two goals and limited chances against.

That approach will come in handy once again against a hungry Dallas team that has been generating excellent chances at even-strength, and boast one of the hottest first-lines in the NHL. The Stars have been explosive of late, scoring goals in bunches, and will be seeking their third-straight victory as they chase down a playoff spot in the Western Conference. This month alone, Dallas has scored 3.8 goals/60 minutes at even strength, good for third in the entire NHL. That said, much of their success is solely attributed to a dominant top-line, one that could get nullified without the benefit of last change in Carolina.

The Canes’ will look to match top defender Jaccob Slavin against Dallas’ top-line, and given Slavin’s success at blanketing key opposition talents, you have to like his chances again on Thursday. Carolina suppresses shots, and chances like no other team in hockey – and if Dallas’ top-line can’t find their form, it’s unlikely lines 2-4 for the Stars will either.

Between the pipes, expect a great duel between two of the NHL’s hottest netminders. Freddie Andersen and Jake Oettinger enter Thursday with impressive save percentages, and goals saved above expectation. They’re two of the top goalies in the league right now, and will be doing everything they can to keep their teams in this crucial contest.

Stars vs. Hurricanes Trends To Know:

  • Stars are 5-1 in their last 6 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 situation.
  • Stars are 15-6 in their last 21 vs. Metropolitan.
  • Hurricanes are 25-8 in their last 33 vs. Central.
  • Under is 3-1-1 in Stars last 5 in the fourth game of a 4-in-6 days situation.
  • Under is 3-0-1 in Hurricanes last 4 games following a win.
  • Under is 7-1 in Hurricanes last 8 games as a favorite.
  • Under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings in Carolina.

With both squads likely having to tighten up their respective games for this playoff-like matchup, expect to see a stingy affair on Thursday night.  Both goalies are in excellent form, and Dallas’ recent offensive surge might meet its match against Carolina’s heralded team-defense.  With the Canes struggling as well to find the back of the net with consistency, backing the Under 6 goals here seems like the smart money.
