DraftKings NHL DFS Picks – May 4th

Last night’s DraftKings NHL Picks did real well considering the low amount of scoring on the slate. Our Penguins stack did plenty more damage with a combined two goals and three assists while Patrick Laine and Paul Stastny teamed up for the only Jets goal on the night. We will take that excellent night and move onto tonight’s two-game slate!

C – Steven Stamkos (TB) – $6,200 vs. BOS

I still believe a lot of ownership in this game tonight will go to the Bruins so I am going to pivot to the Lightning top line for this pivotal Game 4. Stamkos had been quiet in the goal department lately, however he bagged the empty netter in Game 3 which I am hoping gives him the confidence boost he needed to get back to scoring goals again. He is coming to us at a discounted price, but let’s not forget he still has two goals and five assists in eight playoff games so far.

C – Logan Couture (SJ) – $5,900 vs. VGK

Like the pick above, I am going to pivot off the home team in this matchup and roll with Couture who has arguably been the best player in this series so far. Over his last three games, Couture has two goals and two assists including the overtime winner in Game 2 in Vegas. He should have had another OT winner in Game 3, however Marc-Andre Fleury made a massive stop. Nonetheless, he’s playing with a ton of confidence right now and is a lock in my lineup.

W – Nikita Kucherov (TB) – $7,100 vs. BOS

I’m a little surprised to see Kucherov’s price so high still considering he hasn’t registered a point in this series. That said, when Stamkos gets his goal scoring going again tonight I want Kucherov to be there when it happens. You aren’t going to keep this guy quiet long after a 1oo-point season while he notched five goals and five assists across just five games in round one. Let’s look for a big night from the Bolts’ top line.

W – Tomas Hertl (SJ) – $4,600 vs. VGK

Hertl has been playing excellent in this series and throughout the whole playoffs as he and Couture have developed some real nice chemistry on that second Sharks’ line and top power play unit. Hertl has scored goals in back-to-back games and he’s now up five goals and two assists in eight playoff games so far. With the way these two are going right now I don’t mind rolling with them despite a tough road matchup in Vegas.

W – David Backes (BOS) – $3,300 vs. TB

The Bruins certainly aren’t going to roll over and die so I want to grab some low ownership exposure to this group tonight beginning here with Backes. He’s scored just two goals and added one assist through seven playoff games so far, but Backes had a quality regular season with 14 goals on a whopping 160 shots on goal across just 57 contests. He gives us exposure to the second Bruins’ power play as well so I don’t mind this play at this price.

D – Victor Hedman (TB) – $5,400 vs. BOS

We are going heavy on defense tonight beginning here with Hedman. He’s been productive as of late, notching four assists over his last three games with 11 shots and five blocks in that span as well. Of course, Jon Cooper is going to rely heavily on his horse of a blueliner as he’s logged 24+ minutes in six straight games, including his first unit power play time where he forms a three-man stack with Stamkos and Kucherov. I also like the price we are getting Hedman at.

D – Brent Burns (SJ) – $6,700 vs. VGK

I am real high hopes for this three-man Sharks stack despite the tough matchup in Vegas. Burns forms a very high-upside three-man 5v5 and PP1 stack tonight with Couture and Hertl. Burns is red-hot entering this contest after scoring two goals and three assists over his last three games, with 11 shots and seven blocks to boot. He has the highest floor among defenseman in the NHL and I look forward him eclipsing that value tonight.

G – Martin Jones (SJ) – $7,500 vs. VGK

We rolled the dice with Jones in Game 4, and it paid big-time dividends in the form of a 34-save shutout. Tonight, the matchup gets tougher on the road, however I think Jones has now caught fire and when he’s hot he is a very good goaltender. Jones posted a .970 Sv% while stifling the Ducks in round one and while he was poor through three games in this series, let’s keep in mind he sports a tiny 2.01 GAA and .927 Sv% in his playoff career.

UTIL – Riley Nash (BOS) – $3,300 vs. TB

Nash and Backes form a 5v5 stack on the Bruins’ third line so let’s roll with what should a couple of lower owned players tonight at home. Nash has just one assist in these playoffs, however that’s exactly what should keep his ownership down. He’s coming off a career-year in the regular season, so let’s hope for some tiny-owned production from him as a goal would go a long way for this lineup tonight.
