We have plenty of action in the NHL today thanks to the trade deadline, but we also want to make sure we are nabbing some DFS profits to kick of the week. Let’s get into tonight’s five-game slate and see what we can do!
C – Nathan MacKinnon (COL) – $7,500 vs. VAN
With just a five-game slate on tap, I am liking the Colorado Avalanche the most and we will go right to the top of the depth to get the job done tonight. MacKinnon has played at an MVP level this season, recording 66 points in just 53 games, a season that was interrupted by a shoulder injury sustained at the beginning of the month. Regardless, MacKinnon put up three points against the Canucks just six days ago but considering the Avalanche score 3.52 goals per game at home (5th) we will look for some more production from the former first overall pick tonight.
C – Nolan Patrick (PHI) – $4,800 vs. MON
Don’t’ look now, but the 2017 second overall pick is hot. He’s scored just nine goals in his rookie season, but Nolan Patric has tallied four of those goals over his last four games, one in each game. He’s scored two of those four goals as a member of the Flyers’ lethal top power play unit, a spot he received when Wayne Simmonds went down with injury. The Flyers’ have the league’s third-ranked road power play at 23.2%, so let’s look for some more production tonight in Montreal.
W – Mikko Rantanen (COL) – $6,000 vs. VAN
Member number two of the Avalanche top line is having a big season as well. Still just 21 years old, Rantanen has tallied 19 goals and 37 assists on the season to go along with 132 shots on goal. Eight of those 19 tallies have come on that productive Avalanche power play while he’s also tallied 37 points across 28 home games. Let’s look for another big night from Rantanen after he tallied three points against the Canucks last week.
W – Gabriel Landeskog (COL) – $5,900 vs. VAN
We get our third member of the Avalanche top line tonight in the form of veteran Swede Gabriel Landeskog. Landeskog has been the least productive member of the line, but has still managed 20 goals and 24 assists on the season. Like his linemates, he’s extremely productive on the power play while he’s also thrown 131 pucks on goal as well. Look for this trio to put up another real nice night against the lowly Canucks.
W – Oskar Lindblom (PHI) – $2,700 vs. MON
I am loving Lindblom’s value upside tonight at this price in this matchup. He’s been given a real nice opportunity in a top-six role for the Flyers as he should skate with Patrick and superstar Jakub Voracek tonight on the Flyers’ second line. He should also see second unit power play time where he’s averaged over two minutes per game so far across his three NHL games this season. Let’s get excited about his prospects tonight.
D – Tyson Barrie (COL) – $6,000 vs. VAN
We have completed a very high upside four-man stack tonight against the Canucks. While the Avs’ top line put up a combined nine points in Vancouver last week, it was Barrie who was Colorado’s top point-getter on the night with five points in that contest. He’s now up to 37 points in 47 games this season while taking 119 shots on goal. He is the quarterback of the top power play unit as well so no reason not to make this a four-man Avalanche stack tonight.
D – Ivan Provorov (PHI) – $5,000 vs. MON
All said we should have a decently lower owned Flyers stack tonight in Montreal. While Patrick and Lindblom will be linemates at 5v5 play, Lindblom and Provorov will be linemates on the Flyers’ second power play unit. Provorov is having another excellent season as the 21-year-old has 29 points in 62 games to go along with 149 shots and 130 blocks on the season. I really like the upside of this three-man group tonight.
G – Frederik Andersen (TOR) – $7,200 vs. TB
If you’re looking for a cash goalie tonight, Andersen probably isn’t a good look considering his opponent in Tampa Bay tonight. However, he could be a real solid GPP option at a discounted price considering the matchup. He will likely see a lot of shots tonight, and if he’s up to the task, he could provide big-time value. He enters play with a 2.67 GAA and a .922 Sv% for the season. The Maple Leafs have the league’s 12th-ranked road defense and fifth-ranked road penalty kill, so rolling the dice with Andersen in non-cash games makes sense tonight.
UTIL – Tyler Toffoli (LA) – $4,900 vs. VGK
With the return of Jeff Carter to the Kings’ lineup, L.A. now has their productive Tanner Pearson/Carter/Tyler Toffoli line back intact. Toffoli is at his best with Carter as his center as evidenced Saturday against Edmonton where he scored his 20th goal of the season while firing eight shots on goal. He’s got 21 shots on goal over his last four games so let’s look for him to light the lamp once again this evening.
