Last night’s DraftKings lineup did fairly well, although I would like to have seen much more production from the Penguins involved. That said, Evgeny Kuznetsov bagged two goals while Chris Tierney notched a very low owned goal as well. We also didn’t get a goalie win as the Devils upset the hometown Penguins. Let’s look for a smoother ride on tonight’s five-game slate!
C – Steven Stamkos (TB) – $7,500 vs. BUF
The Lightning easily have the top matchup on the slate so we will have no problem rolling out a stack against the lowly Sabres tonight. Stamkos is obviously enjoying a big-time season for the Bolts, tallying 24 goals and 71 points so far. The latter is in a seventh-place tie league wide while he has also fired 176 shots on goal for the season. He is without Nikita Kucherov for the night, but the upside is big on this matchup as the Lightning lead the league with 3.54 goals per game.
C – Jacob De La Rose (MON) – $2,700 vs. NYI
We will get right into our GPP stack and value play tonight as De La Rose and the Canadiens welcome the New York Islanders to the Bell Centre in Montreal. His one goal and three assists on the season are not good numbers, but he should skate alongside Brenden Gallagher tonight who leads the Canadiens in goals scored. He is also up against the NHL’s worst defense tonight, so a big night from that Habs line could be massive for this lineup.
W – Alex Killorn (TB) – $5,300 vs. BUF
With Kucherov out of the lineup it appears it’s going to be Killorn as the main beneficiary. Killorn is expected to skate on the top line tonight alongside Stamkos while he should flank him on the top power play unit as well. He has scored 11 goals for the season, added 26 assists and thrown 113 pucks on goal as well. In this matchup and with his spot in the lineup, I’m looking for those numbers to increase this evening.
W – Brendan Gallagher (MON) – $5,800 vs. NYI
The reason I like De La Rose so much essentially revolves around Gallagher. He has been rather productive offensively considering his team’s overall offensive struggles. He has potted 21 goals this season and has taken a very healthy 209 shots on goal to boot. Gallagher is a member of the Montreal top power play unit, which is a productive power play at home at a nice 20.8% clip.
W – Paul Byron (MON) – $3,600 vs. NYI
We have stacked the Canadiens’ third line with the addition of Byron. He is enjoying a decent offensive season himself as he’s tallied 14 goals on the campaign, although he’s been rather quiet of late with just two points in the month of February. The idea here is to combine this very low-owned Habs stack with the high owned Lightning stack to form a high-upside optimal lineup.
D – Victor Hedman (TB) – $6,800 vs. BUF
Hedman completes an extremely high-upside three-man Lightning stack tonight against the visiting Sabres. He enters play tonight with 44 points on the season which is tied for sixth among defenseman while his 168 shots on goal ranks ninth among defenseman. The Lightning own the league’s third best power play while the Sabres’ road penalty kill checks in at 25th. Let’s look for some big-time damage from this trio tonight.
D – Alexander Edler (VAN) – $5,600 vs. NYR
The Vancouver Canucks return home from a three-game road trip to take on the struggling New York Rangers tonight. New York has lost seven straight games and has surrendered and average of 4.60 goals against over their last five games, so some Canucks’ exposure is a good idea tonight. Edler brings real nice peripheral stats with him tonight thanks to his 121 shots and 142 blocked shots on the season while he’s also recorded 24 points in 51 games.
G – Andrei Vasilevskiy (TB) – $8,500 vs. BUF
Vasilevskiy is the clear-cut top option in goal tonight and we have the funds to use to get him, so let’s roll with the Vezina candidate this evening. Buffalo is the league’s worst offense, and the Lightning are tied for league’s fifth best defense. He’s not on the same roll he was on earlier in the season, but still sports a 2.35 GAA and a .927 Sv% for the season. He should get plenty of goal support to earn a victory tonight in an extremely favorable matchup.
UTIL – Sven Baertschi (VAN) – $3,900 vs. NYR
His ownership shouldn’t be too high but Baertschi makes for a nice upside play tonight against the visiting Rangers. He’s scored 14 goals and added 15 helpers on the season across 51 games and has a real nice spot on the top line alongside Bo Horvat and rookie sensation Brock Boeser. He’s also been real good one the power play with seven of those 14 goals coming on the man advantage. The Canucks should be able to produce some offense tonight so let’s look for some of that off of the stick of Baertschi.
