Last night’s lineup didn’t produce very good results. Unfortunately David Krejci and Ryan Spooner didn’t do any of the six-goal damage the Bruins did while Nazem Kadri and Mitch Marner didn’t produce as well. Frederik Andersen’s 44-save win was the highlight of the lineup, but we will put that one behind us and move on to tonight’s nine-game slate!
C – Jack Eichel (BUF) – $7,300 vs. NYI
It’s tough to utilize a Sabres stack most nights, but tonight against the visiting Islanders seems like a good time to do so. The Islanders enter play tonight with the NHL’s worst defense at and worst road defense as they yield 3.68 goals per game on the road. Enter Eichel who is having a fantastic season despite very little support from anyone else. He’s up to 51 points in 53 games and brings a nice floor in the form of 194 shots on goal as well.
C – John Tavares (NYI) – $7,500 vs. BUF
I am looking for a high-scoring affair tonight in Buffalo. The Islanders may be the NHL’st worst defense, but they’re also the third best offense with 3.30 goals per game. Tavares is having an MVP-type season with 27 goals and 59 point on the year as he and Josh Bailey are one of the league’s very best duos this season. The Sabres checks in with the league’s 28th-ranked defense so look for the Islanders to put some picks behind Robin Lehner tonight.
W – Sam Reinhart (BUF) – $4,000 vs. NYI
Reinhart may only have 23 points for the season, but he’s been very consistent as of late. Over his last nine games, the young forward has tallied ten points. Of course, skating next to Eichel at 5v5 and on the power play helps, but that is excellent production for a player in this price range. When you factor in the Islanders’ league-worst defense, this price becomes even more attractive. Look for this duo to do some damage this evening.
W – Josh Bailey (NYI) – $6,300 vs. BUF
Bailey has played with Tavares for a couple years now, but he has absolutely taken off this season. Bailey enters tonight’s contest with 44 assists for the season which is the third highest mark in the league. He isn’t a big shooter with under 100 shots, but as long as he is playing on the same line as 91 he should continue to rack up assists. Skating with him on the power play as well even furthers his upside against a weak Sabres’ defense.
W – Pontus Aberg (NSH) – $3,200 vs. OTT
With some high-priced stars in this lineup we will need some value along the line as well and we have our first value play here with Aberg. Aberg appears set to skate on the Predators’ top line tonight with Ryan Johansen and Viktor Arvidsson, a spot that could produce nice results against the NHL’s 30th-ranked home defense in Ottawa. He’s got just seven points in 35 games, but in a top-three role that could change in a hurry in a very favorable matchup.
D – Nick Leddy (NYI) – $5,100 vs. BUF
Leddy forms a very high upside three-man stack tonight for the Islanders in Buffalo. He’s having a quality season with 31 points across 54 games on 113 shots. However, after a stretch of 11 games where he recorded just one point, Leddy has scored in back-to-back games for the Islanders to give him eight goals on the season. He is the lone defenseman on the top power play unit so let’s roll with what should be a fairly high owned stack tonight.
D – Ryan Ellis (NSH) – $4,900 vs. OTT
We have a nice little low owned mini-stack here with Aberg and Ellis tonight in Ottawa. After missing the majority of the season due to offseason knee surgery, Ellis has recorded seven points in his 14 games this season to go along with 30 shots and 28 blocks. He is on the second power play unit but should also skate with Aberg at 5v5 tonight thanks to his spot on the top pairing next to Roman Josi. Again a poor Ottawa defense I like the upside of this mini-stack.
G – Devan Dubnyk (MIN) – $8,500 vs. ARI
While Andrei Vasilevskiy is a real nice option too, Dubnyk is my go-to goaltender on this slate. At home this season he has posted a 2.13 GAA and a .930 Sv% while the Wild lead the NHL with just 2.08 goals per game at the Xcel Energy Center. The Coyotes obviously don’t boast a great offense, ranking 30th overall and 29th on the road. Look for Dubnyk to be a brick wall against the lowly Coyotes tonight on home ice.
UTIL – Evan Rodrigues (BUF) – $2,800 vs. NYI
Like Aberg, Rodrigues is a player that made his way onto my radar thanks to his spot on the top line with Jack Eichel and Sam Reinhart. You can pretty much throw away his stats prior to this game as he was in nowhere near the high-upside spot he is in tonight. With Eichel averaging almost a point per game and Reinhart averaging more than a point per game over his last ten, I like the opportunity Rodrigues has while skating with that duo tonight against the league-worst Islanders’ defense.
