We have a solid eight-game NHL slate ahead of us on this Monday night! Let’s dive right in and try and grab some profits to get our week started off on the right foot!
C – Aleksander Barkov (FLA) – $7,600 vs. OTT
I have absolutely no problem paying up for the highest priced centerman on the slate tonight. Barkov and the Panthers have an excellent matchup on their hands tonight as they play host to the visiting Ottawa Senators. Ottawa brings the league’s 30th-ranked defense into play tonight and have also dropped eight of their last 10 games. Enter Barkov who has 68 points in 63 games this weekend and has notched 14 points over his last nine contests. He also leads all NHL forwards with an average ice time of 22:18 this season.
C – Vladislav Namestnikov (NYR) – $4,200 vs. CAR
The Rangers find themselves in a solid spot tonight on home ice against the visiting Hurricanes. Carolina has also dropped eight of their last 10 and the Rangers have actually been solid offensively lately, scoring at least three goals in five of their last six contests. Namestnikov hasn’t been productive since his first game as a Ranger, but he is likely going to be a low-owned player going up against one of the worst goalies in the NHL this season in Scott Darling who owns an .890 Sv% for the season.
W – Evgenii Dadonov (FLA) – $6,900 vs. OTT
Dadonov, like Barkov, enters tonight game against the Senators playing his best hockey of the season. The Russian has notched 20 points over his last 14 games and is now up to 51 points in 58 games this season. He flanks Barkov at both 5v5 and on the Panthers’ top power play unit where he’s notched five of his 21 goals. The Senators have the NHL’s 28th-ranked penalty kill, so the power play could be a productive one in this matchup tonight.
W – Jonathan Huberdeau (FLA) – $6,300 vs. OTT
Huberdeau doesn’t skate on the same line as Barkov and Dadonov at 5v5, however he does skate on the top power play unit with the duo. It’s also nice to get exposure to the Panthers’ second line which has also been a very productive group this season. Huberdeau has notched a power play goal in back-to-back games and is up to 61 points on the season across 66 games. He’s scored six of his 22 goals for the season on the man advantage and one more could surely be on its way tonight.
W – Pavel Buchnevich (NYR) – $4,100 vs. CAR
I really like the upside that Buchnevich brings to the table at this price. He and Namestnikov skate together at both 5v5 and on the Rangers second power play unit, or their first unit depending on how you want to look at it. He’s scored five of his 14 goals for the season on the power play and has 36 points overall across 61 games on 119 shots. He’s a very skilled player and I like his matchup against one of the weakest goaltender in the NHL has had this season.
D – Keith Yandle (FLA) – $6,000 vs. OTT
Yandle is a pricey d-man, but he’s been so good lately that I think he’s worth the add to make this a four-man Panthers stack. Yandle has six goals, four on the power play and 40 assists on 141 shots on goal. Furthermore, eight of his 40 assists for the season have come over his last five games. Yandle is the lone defenseman on that top power play unit so let’s roll with a four-man Panthers stack with a very high ceiling this evening.
D – Tony DeAngelo (NYR) – $3,200 vs. CAR
We have completed our second stack of the night, this one a three-man Rangers stack. This is both a 5v5 and a power play stack as DeAngelo appears to be the lone defenseman on the same power play group that features Namestnikov and Buchnevich. He has just eight assists in 31 games, but also has 64 shots and 40 blocks in those 31 contests. He will see tiny ownership tonight so feel free to roll with DeAngelo in optimal and GPP lineups.
G – Martin Jones (SJ) – $8,300 vs. DET
Jones is one of a handful of goaltenders on this slate that has excellent upside, but I am going to roll with him given his body of work over the last little while. He posted a .932 Sv% in February, and has matched that same .932 number so far in four Match appearances. He has a shutout and a one-goal win over his last two games with a .976 Sv% over that time as well. He is also taking on the league’s 28th-ranked defense tonight so make sure Jones is in strong consideration for your lineup tonight.
UTIL – Tomas Hyka (VGK) – $3,200 vs. PHI
He’s going to see tiny ownership tonight as well, but Hyka is in a nice spot tonight in Philadelphia. The Flyers have been suspect defensively as of late, and Hyka appears set once again to skate on the second line and second power play group for the Golden Knights thanks to a couple key injuries up front. He’s scored just one goal and added an assist on 13 shots in eight games, but also has six shots over his last three and has seen a jump in ice time. He is a solid value play on this eight-game slate.
