After a night off of NHL hockey there is plenty of action around the NHL today. With a full slate of games on tap beginning this afternoon hockey fans can rejoice all day long. Hopefully all of our American readers enjoyed their Thanksgiving while taking in some NHL hockey today. Let’s get to it!
C – Connor McDavid (EDM) – $8,000 vs. BUF
Don’t you be blaming McDavid for the any of the Oilers’ struggles. The captain has tallied ten goals, three power play goals, 28 points and 64 shots across 22 games this season. He has carried the Oilers offense almost single-handedly this season and tonight he will have an excellent shot at some more production against a weak Sabres team. Buffalo ranks 30th with 3.55 goals against per game this season so let’s keep our faith in captain Connor tonight on the road.
C – Mika Zibanejad (NYR) – $7,000 vs. DET
The Rangers are a high scoring team, a high scoring team on home ice and sport one of the league’s top power plays, all things pointing in their favor for tonight’s matchup against Detroit at Madison Square Garden. Zibanejad is a huge part of that lethal Rangers’ power play as he has bagged five of his 11 goals this season with the man advantage and has 22 points in 22 games on the season. Zibanejad has been very consistent this season in the points department so look for him to keep chugging along in this matchup tonight.
W – Pavel Buchnevich (NYR) – $6,000 vs. DET
The price is right here for Buchnevich in a favorable matchup against the Red Wings. Like Zibanejad, Buchnevich has been a force on the Rangers’ power play with four of his eight goals coming with the man advantage. He has tallied 16 points in 22 games this season on 53 shots on goal. He skates with Zibanejad at both five on five and on the power play so there could be lots of production to be had from this duo tonight.
W – Drake Caggiula (EDM) – $3,800 vs. BUF
While Caggiula likely won’t skate with McDavid on the Oilers power play, he will skate with him on the top line for tonight’s game against the Sabres. Needless to say, that’s a big boost for Caggiula, one that has seen him tally four points over his last three games. He still has just four goals and two assists for the season but playing with arguably the world’s best player is a certain boost to his upside and value moving forward.
W – Devin Shore (DAL) – $4,100 vs. CGY
Shore plays with Benn both at even strength and on the power play so he makes for a real nice value play tonight against the Flames. Shore managed to score just his first goal of the season three games ago, but followed that up with a tally in his next game and has three points over his last three games. Considering Shore has just a 5% shooting percentage this season thanks to just two goals on 40 shots, we still have plenty of positive regression coming for the young forward.
D – Kevin Shattenkirk (NYR) – $5,500 vs. DET
Teaming up on that Rangers’ top power play unit will be one of the top power play defenseman in all of hockey in Kevin Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk has five goals, two power play goals, 12 assists and 47 shots on goal this season across 22 games. He doesn’t log a ton of ice time thanks to a deep Rangers’ blueline, but he clearly makes the most of the ice time he does get which includes anchoring a power play that ranks 5th at 23.4%
D – Damon Severson (NJ) – $3,100 vs. VAN
A one off play, Severson’s spot was the last to fill in this lineup and I think he is the best play in this price range. The Devils will host the Canucks tonight who have been a solid defensive team, but Severson has some upside thanks to his spot on the second unit power play. He has had a decent season with seven points in 20 games to go along with 39 shots. He had an assist on four shots his last time out so let’s look for similar production to hit some value tonight.
G – Ben Bishop (DAL) – $7,700 vs. CGY
A big reason why the Stars have been so good at home this season is because Bishop has been excellent on home ice. In nine games (eight starts) at home, Bishop sports a 1.32 GAA and a .950 save percentage. Obviously this is a stark contrast to his 4.04 GAA and .872 save percentage on the road. Calgary ranks 20th in road scoring and the Stars rank 10th in home scoring, so Bishop should get the goal support to win the game but won’t need much if he continues to sparkle on home ice.
UTIL – Mitch Marner (TOR) – $4,800 vs. CAR
Marner is severely underpriced here given how well he has played lately plus the fact he will skate on a line with Auston Matthews tonight against the Hurricanes. Carolina is a fairly solid team, but it’s hard to argue with Marner in this spot considering he has seven points over his last six games. Skating with one of the top few players in the league is a nice boost to his stock and Marner should be able to get on the board as a result.
