The Anaheim Ducks look to keep it up on the road, as they seek to extend their win streak to five in Arizona. The Coyotes haven’t been good this season, they haven’t even been average by any margin. However, the Yotes have been playing some of the best hockey of the year lately. It isn’t saying much because they’ve played so poorly this season, but the Coyotes strung together four wins in a row, before the Flames took them for a 5-2 loss.
Including the four-game winning streak, the Coyotes have won five of their last seven games. That makes for the best couple of weeks in Arizona. Their previous longest winning streak was just two games, so they were able to double their previous mark. It won’t amount too much in the end. Despite playing decent hockey lately, the Coyotes are still a dismal 17-33-5. They’re fighting for proud right now, and at least over the last few weeks, they’ve been doing that well enough.
The Ducks have been playing good hockey like the Coyotes, but their circumstances are a little different. Their wins count towards something at the moment. The Ducks are currently 3rd in the Pacific, giving them an edge up in the playoff hunt. They have 73 points, while the Blues, who own the last wildcard as it is now, with 72 points. In other words, there is little wiggle room for not only the Ducks, but several other teams as well. This is one of those games that could be a trap for the Ducks. It’s a game, if they lose, they’re going to look back on and wish points weren’t left out there on the ice. We’ll see if the Coyotes can catch the Ducks napping in the desert. Anaheim Ducks vs. Arizona Coyotes Pick
As I noted, the Ducks have been playing well lately. With five wins in a row, the Ducks will look for another tonight. They’ve been doing it with fantastic defence. The Ducks have been known for being a physical team, but it’s sort of dwindled away over the last couple of years. Lately, though, we’ve seen flashes of that physicality. Against the Stars and Golden Knights, two good offences, the Ducks didn’t allow a single goal. Blanking the Stars for a 2-0 final and likewise against the Knights. The intensity has been ratcheted up a notch as they look for the playoffs. They’ve allowed 2 or less goals in six of their last seven games.
Ryan Miller has been great in relief of the injured John Gibson. Miller hasn’t allowed a goal in three games, as he picked up a couple of shutouts against the Stars and Knights. He takes on a Coyotes’ offence that ranks 30th with 2.4 goals scored per game. The Yotes have been showing signs of life lately, but they run into a hot defensive unit against the Ducks. Anaheim have gone 7-1 in their last eight meetings, including 5-4 and 5-2 wins this season. The Ducks can’t afford to lose the games they should win down the stretch. I like them to get the job done tonight, as they stay focused and eyes on the playoffs.
