How many is that? The Anaheim Ducks enter Detroit to face the Red Wings soiling themselves with a mess to clean up at Little Caesars Arena. After a 4-3 loss to the Jets in overtime, the Ducks turn their attention to the Wings. Solid effort for the Ducks, but that doesn’t end what is now an eleven-game losing streak. This is on the heels of nine wins in ten games, so things went from really good to really bad very fast. They’ve been all over the place this season without much rhythm to their season.
Despite vomiting all over themselves, the Ducks are 19-18-9 and tied for the final seed in the Western Conference. Just like the Avalanche who have been struggling, but responded for a nice showing in Toronto last night, the Ducks have to keep things in perspective and realize their season isn’t done by a long shot. There aren’t a lot of teams who can survive an eleven-game losing streak and still go to the playoffs, but the Ducks are still in the playoff picture with a lot of hockey left to be played.
The Ducks did manage to pick up 4 points with four losses coming all in overtime. That’s not the best for their overtime record, but they did win four in a row in extra time before going on this long skid. The Red Wings recently snapped a three-game losing streak against the Wild, 5-2. It was only their second win in their last eleven games, which dates back to before Christmas. In other words, there isn’t a whole lot of winning going on between these two squads going into Tuesday. Someone has to win tonight. Head below for our free Ducks vs. Red Wings pick.
Anaheim Ducks vs. Detroit Red Wings Pick
The Red Wings have gotten a little healthier with the return of Mike Green to the lineup. Green isn’t an All-Star by any means, though he is an important member of this Red Wings team, which certainly lacks depth. Danny DeKeyser is also slated to return to the starting lineup tonight, so the blue line is getting healthier in Detroit.
Either way, the Red Wings have seen their share of difficulties in the 2018-19 season and Green and DeKeyser aren’t going to save them. The Wings enter Tuesday with a record of 17-23-2 and should just tank and go after Jack Hughes in the draft. With 41 points, they are currently 2 points ahead of the Kings and Senators for last in the league.
In their last ten games, the Wings have allowed an average of 3.8 goals per game while scoring just 2.8 goals. Conversely, the Ducks have been even worse with a 1.8 goals scored per game and 3.7 goals allowed. All of that adds up to 18 losses and 2 wins between these two teams in 20 games.
Although, the Ducks came close the last three games. While they lost 7-4 to the Penguins, they were up 3-0 at the 1st intermission. Then they brought the Jets to overtime on the road in their last outing. There have been signs of life, but not much has gone their way recently.
If they play like they did against the Jets, they’re likely not going to lose to the Wings. Desperation is going to start kicking in soon, and I do not believe they want to get embarrassed any further. It would be pretty embarrassing to drop twelve games in a row to a team like the Wings. With that said, I can’t see them coming out flat and they likely show some pride with a strong effort against a team who are 2 points out of last place in the league.
