Edmonton Oilers vs. Los Angeles Kings Game 6 Pick – NHL May 12, 2022

The Edmonton Oilers are up against the wall in a must-win game in Game 6. Coming up short and choking in the playoffs isn’t anything new to the Oilers. This has been a common for the Oilers in the playoffs.

It will take just one more loss against the Kings for the Oilers to once again come well short of expectations in the playoffs. They were hot and cold this season. Edmonton went on runs and cold streaks.

For the Oilers entering the playoffs, it was a case of which team was going to show up. The good or bad Oilers. We’ve seen both sides of them in this seven-game series.

They have beaten the Kings 6-0 and 8-2, but then there’s the bad Oilers. The Kings erased a 2-1 series deficit with a 4-0 and 5-4 win in overtime. Edmonton was the better team in the 3rd period and came from behind to force overtime.

However, when a game goes to overtime it’s like putting the game in the judges’ hands in a boxing match. Adrian Kempe scored his second goal of the game to send Oilers fans home sad.

Win tonight and it’s back to Alberta at Rogers Place for Game 7. It sounds easy, but the Oilers never make anything easy in the playoffs and the Kings are better than advertised.

The Kings didn’t get much respect during the regular season from the media. They quietly produced a record of 44-27-11 for the third-best record and 5 points behind the Oilers in the Pacific Division.

Oilers vs. Kings Game 6 Prediction:

In the Connor McDavid era, the Oilers have been well-known for doing this in the playoffs. They have been unable to get over the hump and go on a big playoff run. This isn’t a McDavid problem, he can only do some much, but there has to be clutch play from elsewhere.

They aren’t done yet this year; beating the Kings in two games with Game 7 in Edmonton is more than doable. We’ve seen this from the Oilers in the past, though, so if they lose tonight, this isn’t going to surprise hockey fans.

Mike Smith could have been much better in Game 5. He allowed 5 goals on 43 shots for a 0.884 save percentage. With 43 shots on net, the defense has to clean some things up as well.

Smith has a 2.88 GAA and 0.93 save percentage in five games against the Kings in the playoffs. He’s faced 199 shots in this series, so there’s no doubt that the blueline has to get more physical.

The Oilers depend on their offensive prowess, but in the playoffs the defense has to step up. Smith has to be in top form at Crypto.com Arena tonight.

Edmonton has buried 4.1 goals per game in their previous ten outings. Despite scoring 4 more goals in Game 5, they still lost to a determined Kings team that regrouped for a 5-4 win in overtime.

If the Oilers showed more resistance at home, we’re not talking about the Kings having an opportunity to close this series out tonight.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Los Angeles Kings Game 6 Betting Trends:

  • 15-6 overall in their previous 21 games
  • 14-5 overall in their previous 19 games versus the Western Conference
  • 7-3 overall in their previous ten games versus a team with a winning record
  • OVER is 18-6 in their previous 24 games as a betting favorite
  • OVER is 11-4-2 in their previous 17 games at Los Angeles

  • 8-3 overall in their previous 11 games
  • 4-1 overall in their previous five games at home
  • 7-20 overall in their previous 27 games as an underdog at home
  • OVER is 5-2 in their previous seven games versus a team with a winning record
  • OVER is 11-4-2 in their previous 17 games versus the Oilers at home

This doesn’t look like a scenario where the Oilers are going to get blanked as they did in Game 4 in their last trip to Crypto.com Arena. They will come much harder at Jonathan Quick.

That was a discouraging performance with the Oilers being passive and failing to set up in the Kings’ defensive zone. They should be much more aggressive and desperate in this one. However, depending on Smith between the pipes and the Oilers’ defense isn’t advised.

The Oilers could easily lose this game tonight. They will be well-liked to force Game 7 back home, but the Kings have been underestimated for a while now.

I’m on the OVER at a good value price at Bovada. I’m playing the total at Crypto.com Arena in Game 6. The likelihood of Smith and Quick giving up 4 or 3 goals again appears good.
