Edmonton Oilers vs. Seattle Kraken Pick – NHL December 3, 2021

The Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken meet in what could be an entertaining contest at Climate Pledge Arena on Friday night. The Kraken might be a 8-13-2 team with 18 points, but they can be pesky and give teams a big fight, especially at home in Seattle.

There were unfair expectations placed on the Kraken going into this season. They were compared to the Vegas Golden Knights, who went on a historic run to the NHL Final.

Vegas came two games away from beating the Washington Capitals and winning the Stanley Cup in their first year. The Kraken still have time to reach the playoffs, and therefore a run at the Stanley Cup? Don’t expect it.

That said, Seattle is playing better hockey recently, as they go into tonight with four wins in their last six attempts. They’ve recorded at least a point in five of their previous six games.

The Kraken are coming off a 4-3 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in a shootout. That was another hard-fought game where the Kraken put together a gutsy performance.

They defeated the Panthers, 4-1, and Sabres, 7-4, in their last two before the loss. It might be difficult to get back into the win column with the Oilers in town on Friday night.

Edmonton is on a three-game winning streak, and have wins in five of their last six attempts. They are coming off a 5-2 win over the Penguins on Wednesday night in Edmonton.

The Oilers are a point behind their Albertan rivals in Calgary by a point. They have Connor McDavid, and the Flames don’t. The Flames might be a point ahead, but McDavid is the separator.

In any case, Edmonton continues to hurt on the blueline, as they have four defensemen on the injury report. Duncan Keith is the latest ruled OUT indefinitely. Head below for our free Oilers vs. Kraken pick on December 3, 2021.

Oilers vs. Kraken Prediction:

Connor McDavid is going to have his chances tonight. As a team, the Kraken just have to hope that McDavid doesn’t finish. He can strike fear in any defense and goaltender in the NHL.

That should be the case versus a Kraken team that has struggled to get into form defensively. They are 29th in the NHL with 3.48 goals against per game.

Philipp Grubauer was showing some signs of recovering after an ultra slow start, but he’s been off the mark again in his last two starts. Grubauer allowed 3 goals to the Lightning, and then 3 goals to the Red Wings in the shootout loss.

He goes into Friday night with a GAA of 3.02 and 0.89 save percentage. This is a tough assignment for him against the third best offense in the NHL. The Oilers are third with 3.81 goals scored per game.

Edmonton Oilers vs. Seattle Kraken Betting Trends:

  • 7-0 overall in their previous seven teams versus the Pacific Division
  • 13-3 overall in their previous 16 games versus the Western Conference
  • 9-1 overall in their previous ten games after allowing 2 goals or less
  • OVER is 13-3 in their previous 16 games on one-day rest
  • OVER is 8-1 in their previous nine games after allowing 2 goals or less

  • 2-6 overall in their previous eight games on one-day rest
  • 0-7 overall in their previous seven games versus the Western Conference
  • 2-7 overall in their previous nine games after their opponent allowed less than 2 goals
  • OVER is 9-1-1 in their previous 11 games versus the Western Conference
  • OVER is 11-3 in their previous 14 games

The Oilers have been scoring, but they have to hold on defensively until they get healthier. They rank amongst the worst teams in the league with 34 shots against per game for 28th in the NHL.

Edmonton has conceded 2.9 goals per game, with 3 goals allowed per on the road. Stuart Skinner has been terrific at home in Edmonton, though struggling as a visitor.

Skinner has posted a 1.45 GAA and 0.962 save percentage at home. Conversely, Skinner has recorded a 3.07 GAA and 0.902 save percentage on the road.

The Kraken have been fun to watch at home, with 3.18 goals scored per game in Seattle. However, they have given up 3.27 goals a game at Climate Pledge Arena.

In their last ten outings, Seattle has allowed 3.6 goals per game. They’ve had 4 or more goals scored against in six of their last ten attempts.

I think the Kraken are going to compete hard in this one. Against McDavid and company, I’m not sure if it’s going to be enough, but it should be entertaining at least. The OVER should get there in a 4-3 game.
