My apologies as it has come to my attention that I missed putting a defenseman in yesterday’s lineup. The intended defenseman was Rasmus Ristolainen of the Buffalo Sabres to pair up with Evan Rodrigues who notched an assist at low ownership. Ristolainen failed to record a point. That said, it was a productive lineup as Schenn and Tarasenko combined for two goals and two assists on seven shots whit Matt Duchene scored a goal and Ryan Miller earned a win while stopping 26 of 27 shots. Unfortunately, Bobby Ryan was injured and left the game after just 2:51 of ice time. Hopefully you were able to use yesterday’s picks to cash in some dough! Let’s move on from a quiet Wednesday to a very loud Thursday with 12 games on tap!
C – John Tavares (NYI) – $8,300 vs. NYR
The battle of New York resumes tonight in Brooklyn, and it’s certainly been a one-sided battle over the last few years. The Islanders have won nine of their last 10 against their cross-town Rivals while they have scored at least three goals per game in each of those 10 games. They have also averaged 3.9 goals per game during that stretch. Tavares has done nothing but increase his free agent stock for the Islanders this year as he has scored 36 goals while adding 47 helpers on the season on 251 shots on goal. Those totals should increase tonight against the Rangers and their 27th-ranked road defense.
C – Dylan Larkin (DET) – $6,500 vs. MON
I don’t want this to be a chalk lineup so we will look for some lower owned plays beginning here with Larkin. His ownership won’t be extremely low, but on a 12-game slate he will certainly be a lower owned look. He’s had an incredible season on a brutal Wings team with 14 goals and 60 points to go along with a whopping 227 shots on goal. He is hot entering play tonight, scoring twice and adding four assists over his last four games. He takes on a Canadiens team that ranks dead last in both road defense and road penalty killing this season.
W – Anders Lee (NYI) – $6,300 vs. NYR
The Tavares and Lee combination bring plenty of upside thanks to all the goal scoring and all the shot-taking both have done this season. Lee sits with 39 goals on an even 200 shots entering play tonight. He’s scoring just once over his last six games, but scored five goals in the three games prior to those six, showing just the type of damage he is capable of. He has scored 14 of his 39 goals on the power play and considering the Islanders sport the league’s fifth best home power play at 26.1%, let’s look for more special teams production tonight.
W – Anthony Mantha (DET) – $4,700 vs. MON
I continue to love Mantha at a sub-$5K price, and he brings even more value upside to the table at this price considering the matchup tonight. The Canadiens have had the Wings’ number as of late, but the Red Wings offense is hot right now, scoring 4.25 goals per game over their last four. Mantha has scored just one of the 17 goals in that stretch, but does have a goal and three assists over his last three. He and Larkin form a 5v5 and PP2 mini-stack tonight on home ice.
W – Jakub Voracek (PHI) – $7,000 vs. CAR
The Flyers offense is rolling right now as they welcome the Carolina Hurricanes to town tonight. The Hurricanes own the league’s 19th-ranked road defense, but also the league’s 26th-ranked road penalty kill, so let’s look for some power play production from tonight’s Flyers mini-stack beginning here with Voracek. He’s done plenty of damage on the man advantage this season, notching 35 power play points, good for seventh in the league. He’s also 14th in league scoring with his 83 points while he’s fired 225 shots on goal as well. A real nice floor and a real high ceiling tonight with Voracek.
W – Tobias Rider (LA) – $3,300 vs. MIN
This wing spot was the last one I filled in this lineup, but I think Rieder brings nice value upside to the lineup tonight at home against the Minnesota Wild. Minnesota ranks 28th in road defense this season, and Rieder has an optimal spot in the lineup on the Kings’ second line alongside the very productive Jeff Carter and Tyler Toffoli. The Wild are also playing on back-to-back nights tonight, so Rieder looks like a real nice look as a value play tonight.
D – Shayne Gostisbehere (PHI) – $6,300 vs. CAR
Our Flyers mini-stack is complete with one the best offensive defenseman in hockey. Gostisbehere is enjoying a monster season on the Flyers’ blueline, burying 13 goals, adding 49 assists and firing 217 pucks on goal while also blocking 112 shots as well. He’s also white-hot entering tonight’s game, posting seven assists over his last five games. He should be able to load up from the point on the power play tonight against a poor road penalty kill.
D – Nick Leddy (NYI) – $4,600 vs. NYR
Considering his matchup tonight I love Leddy at this price. He’s had a quality season on the Islanders’ blueline, tallying 10 goals and 42 points on 152 shots across 79 games this season. He’s also blocked 102 shots while scoring four of his 10 goals on the power play. He forms a three-man 5v5 stack as well as a PP1 stack with Tavares and Lee on that deadly Islanders’ man advantage, so let’s roll with Leddy at a quality price in a favorable home matchup.
G – Antti Raanta (ARI) – $8,000 vs. VAN
There has been no better goaltender since the calendar flipped to 2018 than Antti Raanta. Since that time, Raanta’s surreal .942 Sv% is best mark in the NHL among goalies who have made at least nine starts. He posted a .952 Sv% in the month of March and is off to a good start to April with a .977 through the one start. He faces the league’s 26th-ranked offense tonight, so let’s roll with the incredibly hot Raanta in a nice road matchup tonight.
