Simply not a good not at all for our cash-oriented lineup. The Penguins’ and Capitals’ big guns were largely held in check which demolished our lineup. We will look for much better results as we take on tonight’s five-game slate!
C – Steven Stamkos (TB) – $8,800 vs. BUF
There aren’t any more clear-cut super favorable matchups on the slate tonight than the Tampa Bay Lighting as they host the Buffalo Sabres this evening. Tampa Bay paces the NHL with 3.54 goals per game on the season while the Sabres enter play with the league’s 28th-ranked defense. Although Stamkos will likely be without Nikita Kucherov by his side for tonight’s contest, he is the top player on the slate as he enters play with 71 points, good for a seventh place tie overall. He also has 24 goals, 14 of which have come on the power play, to go along with 176 shots on goal for the season.
C – Brayden Point (TB) – $6,500 vs. BUF
It’s very rare that I list two centers on the same team in a stack, but that’s just how it’s going to go tonight with Point and Stamkos set to skate together on the Lightning top line this evening with Kucherov sidelined. Point is enjoying quite the sophomore season with 25 goals, 29 helpers and 167 shots on goal. Interestingly, Point has been productive on both sides of special teams this year with five power play goals, two short handed goals and two short handed assists as well. He should be in for another productive evening tonight on home ice.
W – Alex Killorn (TB) – $5,100 vs. BUF
Just three skaters into this lineup we have already rattled off a three-man Lightning stack, for now. Killorn is going to get the favorable spot on the Lightning top line tonight alongside Stamkos and Point while he should also skate on the top power play unit, albeit with Point skating on the second group. Killorn has tucked 11 goals and added 26 assists this season while taking 113 shots on goal. He could be in for a big night alongside a couple of superstars in a very favorable matchup this evening.
W – Brendan Gallagher (MON) – $6,800 vs. NYI
Although the Habs are a low-scoring team and coming off a shutout loss, the Islanders have cured a lot of cold streaks this season. New York enters play with the league’s worst overall defense so let’s grab some lower owned Habs’ exposure tonight. Gallagher is having a solid offensive campaign given his team’s offensive struggles. He’s potted 21 goals on a very healthy 209 shots on goal while he is a member of a quietly productive Montreal home power play at a solid 20.8% clip, good for 13th overall.
W – Jacob De La Rose (MON) – $3,000 vs. NYI
We require a value play in this lineup and here it is with De La Rose. While he’s managed just a goal and three helpers across 35 games for the season, De Le Rose should be aided tonight by the fact he should skate with Gallagher at 5v5 play. Skating alongside the team’s top goal scorer is certainly a beneficial spot to be, and the matchup makes it even better. He should see tiny ownership tonight so I really like De La Rose as a GPP play this evening.
W – Alexander Steen (STL) – $5,900 vs. DET
Although they were crushed 8-3 last night in Minnesota, the three goals the Blues scored were their highest output in quite some time. The Blues had scored just seven goals over their previous six games, so perhaps they can build on their best offensive performance in a while tonight in a home matchup against the Red Wings. Steen is a member of the Blues’ top line with Vladimir Tarasenko while he’s also a member of the top power play unit. He actually tallied two assists in last night’s loss and brings 13 goals and 26 helpers on 133 shots into tonight’s contest.
D – Victor Hedman (TB) – $7,200 vs. BUF
We are going to roll with a very high-upside four-man Lightning stack tonight as they host the Sabres. Hedman is making his way up the defenseman scoring leaderboard with 44 points on the season which ranks in a sixth-place tie league-wide. He’s taken 168 shots on goal which ranks ninth among defenseman while his 19 power play points checks in at fifth. Hedman gives us 3/5 of the Lightning top power play unit so let’s roll with the big defenseman tonight.
D – Vince Dunn (STL) – $3,600 vs. DET
Although Dunn hasn’t been too productive lately, I see lots of value in this matchup at his price. Dunn is the lone defenseman on the Blues’ top power play unit, a group that also includes the aforementioned Alexander Steen. He’s tallied four goals, one on the power play and 11 helpers to go with 107 shots and 40 blocks across 57 games this season. Against the lowly Red Wings, Dunn and the Blues have a nice home matchup tonight.
G – Semyon Varlamov (COL) – $7,900 vs. CGY
Aside from Andrei Vasilevskiy, the goaltending is a little hit and miss tonight, but since the Avalanche are so good at home I’ll roll with Varlamov at a real nice cost. The Avs’ are one of the highest scoring home teams in the league which means Varlamov should get plenty of goal support tonight as well. He has been stellar at home, going 10-4-1 with a 2.31 GAA and a .933 Sv% across 16 starts and 17 home appearances this season. The Flames were shutout in Dallas last night, and have another tough matchup against the NHL’s seventh best home defense tonight.
