It was a so-so lineup last night as our Wild stack didn’t prevail, however our Blues stack delivered a solid return at low ownership. The dagger in the lineup was the Coyotes storming back to beat the Wild and dealt a loss to our goaltender Devan Dubnyk in the process. We will look to get back into the profit column with an optimal lineup with both cash and GPP plays on this eight-game slate!
C – Henrik Zetterberg (DET) – $5,400 vs. NYI
We begin the lineup with the GPP plays as Zetterberg and his Red Wings take on the Islanders. I see a lot of ownership going to the Islanders in this one, but let’s not forget the favorable matchup Zetterberg and the Wings have against the NHL’s worst overall and worst home defense. The Red Wings’ offense has been quiet lately, but hopefully that keeps ownership to a minimum against a team that yields 3.64 goals against per game. Zetterberg has tallied 28 assist and 113 shots in 52 games this season.
C – Bo Horvat (VAN) – $5,600 vs. CAR
Horvat won’t see minuscule ownership tonight, but he also won’t be too highly owned as he gets set for a favorable matchup tonight in Carolina. Scott Darling is the confirmed starter for the Hurricanes tonight, and owns an .892 Sv% for the season and an .853 Sv% over his last seven outings. Horvat has 25 points in 36 games this season with five of his 12 goals coming on the Canucks second-ranked road power play at a whopping 24.7%.
W – Gustav Nyquist (DET) – $6,000 vs. NYI
While Zetterberg is the playmaker on the Wings’ top line, Nyquist and Mantha are the goal scorers. For his part, Nyquist has tallied 15 goals on the season on a team-leading 130 shots on goal. Like the rest of the Red Wings’ offense Nyquist is cold at the moment with just one goal since January 7th, however there aren’t too many matchups that are better for ending cold streaks than the Islanders. Also keep in mind the Isles are playing on back-to-back nights after a 4-3 loss last night in Buffalo.
W – Anthony Mantha (DET) – $4,200 vs. NYI
I love the price we are getting Mantha at tonight. Not many guys who have scored 16 goals this season are able to be had in this price range, especially not in the matchup Mantha finds himself in tonight. With the Islanders playing on back-to-back nights, the Red Wings should see backup Thomas Greiss for tonight’s contest. Greiss has been awful this season to the tune of a 3.94 GAA and an .887 Sv% for the season. His 16 goals are the most on the team so let’s have high GPP hopes for this stack tonight.
W – Brock Boeser (VAN) – $6,300 vs. CAR
By now Boeser’s story has been well documented. He has lit the NHL on fire as a rookie this season as he scored his 26th goal of the campaign in last night’s loss in Tampa Bay. That total easily paces all rookies while he skates with Horvat at both 5v5 and on that Canucks lethal road man advantage. Nine of those 26 goals have come on the power play while he’s also taken 150 shots on goal to boot. Look for Horvat and Boeser to get right back on the scoresheet against one of the slate’s weakest goaltenders tonight.
W – Jamie Benn (DAL) – $7,700 vs. PIT
Benn is a cash type of play tonight at home against the Penguins. Pittsburgh has been hot lately, but they have yielded plenty of offense on the road. Their 3.22 goals against per game rank 22nd in the league while Matt Murray sports a 3.19 GAA and an .888 Sv% on the road this season. For his part, Benn has recorded 21 goals and 49 points in 55 games for the season on 160 shots on goal. He and the Stars should click for some offense against the visiting Pens tonight.
D – John Klingberg (DAL) – $6,700 vs. PIT
Benn and Klingberg are a cash mini-stack tonight but fit in this optimal lineup as well. Klingberg paces all NHL defenseman with 51 points on the season while he has also taken 134 shots on goal as well. Of course, he is the anchor of the Stars’ top power play unit, a group that most certainly includes Benn as well. Dallas scores 3.36 goals per game at home, good for seventh overall, so let’s expect some more offense from the home side tonight.
D – Alexander Edler (VAN) – $5,000 vs. CAR
We have another three-man stack complete here with the addition of Edler. He forms a PP1 stack with Horvat and Boeser as he brings a real solid floor with him into tonight’s contest as well. Edler has tallied a solid 20 points in 42 games this season, but has also taken 105 shots on goal and blocked 116 shots as well. It’s real nice to get those peripheral stats in your favor, especially when his offensive upside is high against a Hurricanes team who has yielded plenty of offense with Scott Darling in goal this season.
G – Harri Sateri (FLA) – $7,700 vs. LA
Sateri is certainly a GPP play tonight, but he has been real solid as of late. Over his last four starts, Florida’s third-string netminder has produced a .950 Sv% and has not allowed more than two goals in a game during that stretch. The Panthers aren’t the greatest defensive club and they rank dead last by yielding 36.1 shots per game at home. However, that’s exactly what makes him a nice GPP play as he should see plenty of shots tonight and if he is up to the task he could post a big score against a middle-of-the-pack offense.
