Our most recent FanDuel NHL Picks did not work out as planned, so we will move onto tonight’s nine-game slate and earn some dough heading into the weekend! Tonight’s lineup is cash-oriented with a couple of value plays mixed in!
C – Mark Scheifele (WPG) – $8,100 vs. DET
Of all the teams on tonight’s slate it’s the Winnipeg Jets who have the top matchup in my book. Their 3.84 goals per game at home is the top number in the NHL while their 29.2% clip with the man advantage at home is the second best mark in the league. They have also averaged 4.87 goals per game over their last seven games. For his part, Scheifele has racked up five points over his last three games and has 13 points over his last eight games. Look for the Jets’ big boys to get the job done tonight on home ice.
C – William Karlsson (VGK) – $7,400 vs. OTT
What a story this kid is. After scoring six goals in 81 games last season in Columbus, Karlsson has absolutely exploded for 34 goals in 63 games with the upstart Golden Knights this season. He’s on fire as of late too, notching four goals and two assists over his last six games. The Golden Knights are the league’s second highest scoring home team with 3.63 goals per game and get a favorable home matchup tonight with the Ottawa Senators in town who sport the NHL’s 30th-ranked overall defense.
W – Blake Wheeler (WPG) – $7,700 vs. DET
Wheeler is another player enjoying a sensational season for the Jets. His 55 assists are the second most in the NHL and just one behind leader Jakub Voracek of the Philadelphia Flyers. He also carries a nine-game point streak into tonight’s contest with 15 points over that span. He’s a high floor player with 73 points in 63 games to along with 195 shots on goal. The Scheifele/Wheeler combo has the utmost of upside in this matchup tonight.
W – Jonathan Marchessault (VGK) – $7,500 vs. OTT
You could say this about almost every player on the Golden Knights, but Jonathan Marchessault is having an amazing season and continues to defy expectations. He enters tonight’s contest with 22 goals and 63 points in 60 games this season with a whopping 203 shots on goal as well. He has a goal and four helpers over his last four games and nine points over his last seven games. Karlsson and Marchessault also bring high floors and very high ceiling into tonight’s contest.
W – Alex Tuch (VGK) – $3,700 vs. OTT
This is the first value play of the slate tonight, but I see plenty of upside in Tuch. While he doesn’t skate with Karlsson and Marchessault at 5v5, Tuch does skate on the top power play unit alongside the duo. The former Minnesota Wild winger has notched 11 goals and 27 points on 135 shots across 59 games for the season. He’s taken 11 shots over the last three games and should be one of the top value options on tonight’s slate given the matchup.
W – Jacob De La Rose (MON) – $3,100 vs. NYI
De La Rose once against brings nice value upside into a matchup against the New York Islanders. He eclipsed value with an assist against the Islanders on Wednesday, which was his first point over his last 16 games. He is set to skate with Paul Byron and Brendan Gallagher on the Canadiens’ third line as they go up against the worst defense in the NHL tonight. He’s seeing more ice time than ever this season so don’t sleep on the young Hab tonight.
D – Dustin Byfuglien (WPG) – $5,700 vs. DET
Finishing off our Jets’ three-man stack is Byfuglien. Like his teammates above, Byfuglien is white-hot entering tonight’s contest with 11 points over his last seven contests. For the season, the big rearguard has just four goals but also 30 assists on 125 shots and 69 blocks across 51 games. He is the lone defenseman on a lethal Jets’ lethal top power play unit, so this stack has plenty of upside in this matchup.
D – Nate Schmidt (VGK) – $4,300 vs. OTT
Schmidt completes a four-man PP1 stack for the Golden Knights tonight as he is the lone defenseman on that unit. He enters play tonight with five goals and 25 points on the season across 63 games. He’s also got some decent counting stats with 88 shots and 97 blocks in that span as well. He sees plenty of ice on that Vegas blueline and is in a very optimal spot against the visiting Sens tonight.
G – James Reimer (FLA) – $7,300 vs. BUF
Reimer is by no means a cash goalie tonight given his recent work, however he does have a very favorable matchup with nice win upside against the visiting Sabres. Buffalo enters play tonight sporting the league’s worst offense at 2.39 goals per game on the season. Florida is playing great team defense at the moment with two goals or less against in four of their last five games. Let’s extract some value out of the veteran netminder tonight.
